This past June, Abdullah Salama had the opportunity to deliver a podium presentation at the Canadian Orthopaedic Association Annual Meeting in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He served as the project lead and first author on a systematic review examining deep vein thrombosis and prophylaxis following upper-extremity orthopaedic surgery.
Abdullah's advice to other BHSc students:
"My strongest advice is to recognize that, early on, you often do not know what you need to learn, which questions are worth pursuing, or even which opportunities would suit you best. Much of that knowledge exists outside the formal curriculum and only becomes visible through engagement....
It is also important to remain open to opportunities that may not initially fit the exact role, specialty, or project you imagined; early experiences often teach you more by expanding your perspective than by matching a predetermined plan. Curiosity opens the door, but flexibility, openness, and other people often help you see where that door leads."
