An umbrella organization for international affairs based initiatives at Queen's University, Kingston since 1907!

QIAA is a fully student-run, not-for-profit organization devoted to the study and dialogue of international affairs. We attempt to provide our members practical outlets in which they can explore their interest in the international system. We attend and host many conferences, run speakers series, publish a journal, promote initiatives and are active in Model United Nations conferences. We are the umbrella organization for initiatives such as the Queen's Foreign Policy Conference, the Queen's Interactive Crisis Simulation, the Queen's International Observer, the Global Passport, external Model UNs, and our very own speaker series. Today we remember and honour the Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals who were taken from their families too soon. Founded by the NWAC, Sisters in Spirit day is a day to lift up the voices of the families and survivors, and to show support, remembrance and take action.

As individuals with the privilege to study and reside in Canada it is our responsibility to demand truth, justice, and safety for Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

On September 30th, across Canada, we recognize Truth and Reconciliation day. This day was established to honour the survivors, families, and victims of the Residential School system. The effects of Canada’s colonial history continue to contribute to a lack of representation for Indigenous peoples, and it is days like today that remind us the importance of including marginalized voices. Awareness of our history keeps us accountable and Canada still has a long way to go in the pursuit of Truth and Reconciliation.

QIAA encourages its members and the larger Queen’s community, as individuals who live and study on as uninvited guests upon Indigenous land, to wear orange tomorrow, attend a reconciliation event, and to take the time to reflect on how to bring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action into your everyday lives.

“Invest in Peace - For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”

International Day of Peace marks a dedication to world peace, and an end to war and violence. Established in 1981 by the United Nations, today calls for global cease-fire and a commitment to non-violence. In our constantly changing global community, working towards peace as a collective is more important than ever. This year’s theme, “Invest in Peace - For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day” seeks to recognize the “everyday architects of peace” that are working through grassroots movements to build a peaceful world.

As members of a broader international community it is our responsibility to promote peace everyday through small steps. Consider taking the time on this International Day of Peace to help someone else, donating to humanitarian efforts, or using your voice as an agent of change. 🕊️🌐

!! Intern hiring is now open !!

QIAA will be hiring 5 first year students to work closely with one of our Presidents or Vice Presidents, as well as our Chief of Staff, to support daily operations and organize their own collaborative projects.

These positions offer an opportunity to gain valuable experience in club administration, project management, event planning, marketing, and a variety of other fields.

On 19 August 2003, a bomb attack killing 22 humanitarian workers, including the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, took place at the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq. Since then, the United Nations has declared this day, World Humanitarian Day. Today we take the time to honour humanitarian workers, who put their own lives at risk to stand by those affected by crises around the world.

QIAA stands with these workers, those affected, and encourages those who can to take action. Whether this be through donating to aid campaigns, volunteering with local or international groups, or advocating for the rights and protections of those under threat, we all have a role to play.

Included in this post are just a few ways to get involved globally as well as with our local Queen’s clubs and initiatives.
