Congratulations to Karolina Krzys for being awarded a Meta (Facebook) PhD Research Fellowship for her work in AR/VR Perception, Cognition and Action!

The Meta PhD Research Fellowship Program awards PhD candidates conducting cutting-edge research in emerging topics across computer science and engineering, including AI system hardware/software co-design, blockchain and cryptoeconomics, human-computer interaction, programming languages, and AR/VR future technologies.

Karolina is currently taking advantage of Virtual Reality technology to explore cognitive processing across various tasks including visual perception, attention, navigation, and memory.

Her current research seeks to identify mechanisms underlying attentional prioritization of space near the body, such as implication of the visuomotor system or susceptibility to modulation by other cognitive processes.

She hopes to leverage latest advancements in display technology to broaden our understanding of how attention is deployed across depth of 3D space.

The QVCL is so proud of Karolina’s achievement and we look forward to seeing her continue to succeed!

INTERESTED IN GAINING SOME RESEARCH EXPERIENCE?

The Queen's Visual Cognition Lab (QVCL) is currently looking for Volunteer Research Assistants who are enthusiastic about Cognitive Psychology and want to learn more about Vision Research!

This is a perfect position for a 2nd or 3rd year student interested in learning more about this field or looking to gain some research experience. We have some great people working in our lab this year, and hopefully you're interested in contributing to our field of work. The time commitment is about 10hrs/week and hours are flexible.

If you are interested, please fill out the Google Docs form below.

If you have any issues, please contact our lab coordinator, Hannah at for assistance.

If you would like more information about our research, feel free to browse our website at https://qvcl.ca/.

Create a new survey on your own or with others at the same time. Choose from a variety of survey types and analyze results in Google Forms. Free from Google.

The Queen's Visual Cognition Lab is recruiting participants for studies Pocky and Orange, two 30-45 minute studies where your eye movements will be tracked and analyzed in a visual search task. The studies can be run together or separately. All studies through our lab are compensated at a rate of $15/hour or provide course credit, and even better -- you'll contribute to the research on how and why we see the way we do!

Interested in participating? Reach out to [email protected] with subject "POCKY"/"ORANGE" for more information.

Recent Research: The influence of scene context on parafoveal processing of objects

In a recent article published by the QVCL team (Dr. Monica Castelhano and Effie Pereira), a study revealed that preview information and scene context both independently add to one's parafoveal processing of objects, regardless of object-scene congruency interactions.
