-Pushing the frontiers of engineering innovation

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Science, offers ten undergraduate engineering

programs covering multiple disciplines found within the engineering profession:
-Chemical Engineering
-Civil Engineering
-Computer Engineering
-Electrical Engineering
-Mechanical Engineering
-Mining Engineering
-Engineering Chemistry
-Engineering Physics
-Geological Engineering
-Mathematics and Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science is organized along discipline lines, into five departments:
-Chemical Engineering
-Civil Engineering
-Electrical and Computer Engineering
-Mechanical and Materials Engineering
-The Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining

The Faculty offers a common first year with unconstrained discipline choice after first year - a feature unique to Queen's that provides a strong foundation for our students, as well as the opportunity for students to explore their passion for engineering. Graduate study includes a number of MEng, MASc, and PhD degrees within our programs. Graduate programs are designed to meet evolving needs for today's engineer - for example, programs such as a Master of Applied Sustainability and a Collaborative Master in Biomedical Engineering.

Congratulations to Mechanical Engineering student Ruby Sinclair (Sc,'27) on winning the Gold Medal Student Award from Engineers Canada | Ingénieurs Canada !

With a focus on biomechanics, Ruby's projects have included a low-cost microfluidic iodine deficiency diagnostic chip; a non-invasive jaundice detection tool; and a 3D-printable, body-powered prosthetic arm intended for survivors of the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. She's even helped design a traction mechanism for a lunar rover and co-authored a proposal for experimental drug delivery trial in zero gravity, to provide better medical treatment in space.

A multi-award winner, Ruby has received the Cansbridge Fellowship, Zenith Fellowship and the inaugural Claudette MacKay-Lassonde scholarship from Polytechnique Montréal (2025).

🎉🎉 🎉 for Ruby Sinclair!

To boldly go: Queen's Human Exploration Rover Challenge Design Team is only two years old and has taken home the NASA Ingenuity Award for the second year running!

This past April the team travelled to Huntsville, Alabama, home to NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's George C. Marshall Space Flight Centre where they competed in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge!

After nine months of hard work, collaboration and design challenges, the team proudly represented Smith Engineering and Canada, as the only Canadian team in the invite-only competition.

Congratulations!

MechMania swept the department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering during the last week of classes!
Second year MME student teams were given a real-life scenario (rural, hillside water channels damaged) and tasked with improving flow using a device of their own design, powered by a small computer and programming script written by the team. Replace water with a small ball, add a finals competition at the end of the week and you've got the idea.

This multi-faceted project required teams to collaborate, delve into a variety of engineering problems spanning disciplines and complete it all within a week while maintaining their poise and professionalism.

Swipe through for photos of the wins and the close calls!

Welcome to Civil Week 2: Second year Civil Engineering students were tasked with designing a livable coastal house that can withstand climate-change induced waves and weather.

A week of designing on teams within specific parameters (budget, living space, structural soundness etc), testing at the Queen’s University Coastal Engineering Laboratory, and wrap up presentations, Civil Week 2 was an exercise in learning, collaboration and professionalism.

Congratulations on a successful week!
