Yesterday hosted Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security Nolan Quinn as he announced an investment of $104 million from the Ontario Government to support additional student seats in STEM, health care and education programs at Queen's, helping prepare graduates for in-demand careers and strengthening Ontario's workforce.

Can a supercomputer help communities respond faster to natural disasters? researcher Ian Karlin is helping make it possible. Using 512 GPUs for more than 500 hours, researchers precomputed the dynamics of a Cascadia fault earthquake and the tsunami it could generate.

The goal is to turn seafloor sensor data into accurate forecasts in a fraction of a second – supporting faster, better-informed evacuation decisions.

From improving sustainable design to research breakthroughs, our students showcased how their research and training is positioning them to be the next generation of and leaders. Together with our partner Simon Fraser University and industry collaborators including Bell Canada, Queen's also shared our ambitious plan for advancing Canada’s leadership in sovereign, secure, and sustainable compute and AI for all.

Congratulations to Francis Halzen of the University of Wisconsin-Madison on the 2026 in . His award honours contributions to IceCube and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos from space.

IceCube is a detector buried deep in Antarctica’s ice. physicist Nahee Park is part of its research collaboration, alongside Ken Clark, Aaron Vincent, and Queen's graduate students.

🏜️ The sweeping sandstone layers of Antelope Canyon were shaped over millennia by water and wind. For researcher Tianyu Zhao, they also echo the geological strata at the heart of mineral science. Zhao, a postdoctoral fellow in the Robert M. AI is opening new possibilities for researchers to build digital tools without the need for a background in software development.

researcher Thanyehténhas (Nathan Brinklow) created a platform that brings together rare, centuries-old texts in Kanyen’kéha (the Mohawk language), making it easier to search and compare editions and explore how the language and translations changed over time.

He built it using vibe coding, a process that uses prompts to tell an AI model what to build, while the researcher tests the results and asks for changes.

The work highlights AI’s potential as a research tool, while reinforcing the importance of human expertise in guiding and validating what it produces.
