Last Thursday February 1st the AMS held the 2024 Rector Candidate Debate for the two Rector Candidates, Niki Boytchuk-Hale and Leo Yang. Vote today in the Rector Election, linked in our bio!
The Rector of Queen’s is the third officer of the University, after the Chancellor and Principal. The central role of the Rector is to act as an advocate and a facilitator of dialogue regarding students’ needs, opinions, and views with the university’s senior administration. The Office of the Rector is an important resource for the Queen’s student community in helping them understand the university’s administrative structure and how to obtain student-specific resources and services.
Here are statements from each candidate:
Niki Boytchuk-Hale: “Hey, I’m Niki, and I am running to be the next Rector of Queen’s University. I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art and am now pursuing my Bachelor of Education in the Indigenous Teacher Education Program. I have worn many hats on campus in my five years here and have gained valuable institutional knowledge of both student government and the University. My mission is to be a Rector who represents the student voice fairly and elevates the Queen’s experience. I promise to be an agent of change and I will use this position to connect, advocate, and inform.”
Leo Yang: 1977 - “In this financial storm hitting Queen’s, as the former Principal’s Intern and Student Senate Caucus Vice-Chair, I’m not here just for an election, but for a revolution, a Queen’s revolution! No more mismanagement from the administration, no more inaction from our student leaders, and no more silence from us, the students! The urgency is here, it is time to overturn the old regime! I’m Leo Yang. Join me! Let’s break down the barriers and start our own revolution to transform this university to a better future! Stand with me and together, we can determine the Queen’s destiny! Loyalty, Solidarity, Prosperity”
