An ESCAPE from classes:
MIB students gathered and worked together to get out of an escape room game in downtown Kingston. A new experience for some, it was a great way to test out our teamwork skills in a fun setting. The group performed admirably, completing the escape which has a success rate of only 27%. In this scenario, the story was that we were to imagine being back in 4th grade, and we had put a love note into the locker of our crush. Realizing that this may have been a rash idea, our escape challenge was to break into the principal’s office to get the access code to our crush’s locker. The group operated very cooperatively, perhaps because we have already spent so much time together, but maybe our diversity and acquired people skills from the program helped! Either way, we are very proud of passing the escape room challenge, and we continue to find ways to have fun in Kingston!

On January 26th, Chinese MIB students invited their colleagues to celebrate the Chinese New Year together (Year of the rooster started on January 28th). The event was completely student organized and also provided very interesting insights into Chinese customs regarding the New Year as well as snacks and funny games, as you can see in the pictures.

*Photo Challenge*
We are impressed!
We saw that most of you really got used to the cold in Canada (which is good as it doesn't seem to get warmer so far). Thank you for all the great submissions of your favorite winter pics.
The choice was hard but we are announcing Christoph Beck (and Guillermo Rico Juberias), Francesca Motta and HĂ  Trang as the lucky winners of the contest.
Check out their 'cool' and 'hot' pictures below and continue to share your MIB-experiences with us in the future! .
Enjoy your week!

In addition to the exchange updates, we encourage every MIB-student to reach out to us to tell us what makes the MIB outstanding. Today, Sahil Zaveri will provide a very particular and interesting insight into the MIB community and the "networking" and "team building" experiences in the MIB:

"When I was writing this reflection of my experience in the MIB, it started off as a typical mouthpiece where I go on and on about how this degree and the Smith have changed my life, educated me and helped my career. But halfway through, I realized that the people who are looking to apply to this course have already heard different versions of what I was going to say from other sources. Instead, I would like to focus more on the non-academic, non-Queen’s campus related activities that happen when you are trying to get through the course reading and team meetings. I thought it would be a typical business school Masters degree, and passing and getting a job would be all I would get out of it. It's been almost 7 months now since the start of the program and I have gotten so much more out it. Sure, passing with decent grades is a priority, but it isn’t as difficult to do that with just a bit of effort. What was more interesting for me was the new Canadian way of life and culture which is a total contrast to my home culture. I can proudly say I have been to more parties in this program than the last 22 years of my life combined. Queen’s has the rightful reputation of being a party school. The sense of togetherness and family that this program instills on you is not describable in words. Sure, you go to new place and make 3-4 new friends and hang out with them all the time. But I can’t imagine making a 30-person group in such a short span of time. The time that we had together was used beautifully. Every single person from that group participates in whatever plans we make. NO MAN LEFT BEHIND. It's surprising that we get along so well considering we are all from different countries and cultures. I don’t know how, but the MIB team managed to find people from 30 different countries who could all work well together. Kudos to them for that. This is something that Queen’s offers, that Smith offers."

Next one in line for our exchange report is Gary Hinds

"Dag, ik heet Gary. I'm doing my exchange at Erasmus University, Rotterdam school of Management in the Netherlands. I’m originally from Grenada, a tiny island in the Caribbean. I chose to attend Queen's because of the International focus of the MIB program and the exchange component. Having never been to Europe before, this was a great opportunity to live for a couple months and travel to different countries while studying at a top university. The experience is lasting and life changing and the people I’ve met have helped me along my journey and truly enriched my life."

The second entry to our exchange stories is one that displays the social component of the MIB-family.
In preparation of their exchange semester in Vienna, Rosalie Stackpole and Heidi Hicks traveled Europe:

"After Paris, we traveled to Brussels, Belgium as our second destination on our pre-semester European tour.
We were lucky enough to be able to meet up with 3 other amazing MIB's, who are also on exchange in different countries! Jenny Bridgener came over from Maastricht, and Gary Hinds and Bereket Bekele came over from Rotterdam. We spent 2 days together, exploring the city and experiencing the European flair. Here we are in front of the well-known Atomium."
