TWU English professors Dr. Katharine Bubel and Dr. Laura Van D**e recently presented a paper on C.S. Lewis, "An Incarnational Cartography: Mapping Lewis’s Till We Have Faces," at the "Undiscovered Lewis Conference" at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. This is the world's largest Lewis conference which will take place once again in 2028. Their paper was very well received by all accounts!

TWU alumni who have been previously published in [spaces] Literary Journal are invited to submit creative works for the 20th anniversary edition of the journal. Below is the official Call for Submissions:

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

[spaces] literary journal is turning 20!

To celebrate our 20th year, we want to warmly invite previous writers, artists, and editors to submit to our anniversary edition of the journal. We are offering two ways for previous contributors to participate in this special volume.

Re-engage with a previously published piece:
We encourage writers whose works appeared in Volumes 1-14 to re-envision their previously published work with [spaces] by re-imagining it or showing how your idea has evolved with the passage of time. We hope to publish your original piece and your re-imagined work side by side. We have 16 years of journals archived on our website. Or, submit a new piece:
We are open to new works of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, or art inspired by this year’s theme.

Submission guidelines:
Maximum length: 1,500 words

We are so pleased to announce that Ariel Little, who completed her M.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities at Trinity Western University, has today successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the University of British Columbia: “Semi-Permeable Selves: Hygienic Discourse and the Biopolitics of Girls’ Health, 1870 – 1920.” We know that great things lie ahead for Dr. Little!

Ariel Little is a PhD Candidate specializing in transatlantic discourses of health and girlhood between 1870-1920. TWU English professors, Dr. David Anonby and Dr. Laura Van D**e, travelled to the Los Angeles area to present papers at the Conference on Christianity and Literature held at California Baptist University in May 2026. Dr. Anonby presented on Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, while Dr. Van D**e presented on the contemporary English poet Martin Shaw.

This week, English professor Dr. Holly Faith Nelson presented a paper on Margaret Cavendish and Northrop Frye at a University of Toronto colloquium entitled "Northrop Frye's Renaissance" (May 7, 2026). The colloquium was co-organized by our department alumnus Bret van den Brink, who is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of English at the University of Toronto. Both presented on a panel with Professor James Nohrnberg (University of Virginia) whose dissertation was supervised by Frye.
