🌱 Want to try Horticulture at KPU without applying to a full program?

General Interest studies offer an easier way to get started. You don’t need to apply to a degree, diploma or certificate program — choose a course, complete the General Interest registration process and start exploring.

This fall, check out three Horticulture courses:

🌿 HORT 1110: Introduction to Sustainable Horticulture — Instructor: Diego Martinez Manay
Explore sustainability, food systems, crop diversity, biotechnology, urban planning and ecological cultivation.

✏️ HORT 2327: Sustainable Design I — Instructor: Jack van Duynhoven
Develop residential landscape design skills through drafting, site analysis and design communication, with a focus on sustainability in urban landscapes.

🔬 HORT 3320: Plant Pathology — Instructor: Lily Liu
Get hands-on experience diagnosing plant diseases, evaluating control strategies and exploring plant health and disease management.

General Interest is a great way to test the waters, explore a new career direction or build new skills — without committing to a full program.

📚 Take one course per term (up to 4 credits), to a maximum of 12 undergraduate credits. Registration begins on the first day of classes, subject to available seats.

HORT 2327 and HORT 3320 require a Permission to Register form.

🌿🥈 Silver for KPU Horticulture at Skills Canada Nationals! 🥈🌿

What an incredible achievement! Last weekend, KPU students James Stevenson and Matthew Hewitt brought home a Silver Medal in the Landscape Gardening competition at the Skills Canada National Competition in Toronto, showcasing their talent among the best young landscapers in the country.

Representing KPU on the national stage, James and Matthew spent two challenging days bringing a landscape design to life from the ground up. Their finished project incorporated retaining walls, a paver patio, custom woodwork, low-voltage lighting, and plant installations, showcasing a wide range of technical skills and craftsmanship.

Competing against top students from six provinces across Canada, they demonstrated the focus, determination, and attention to detail required to succeed at the highest level. In a competition where every measurement counts, their exceptional work secured a place on the podium.

We are incredibly proud of James and Matthew for their achievement and for representing KPU with professionalism, skill, and pride.

🌱 Earlier this year, KPU Plant Health students Liz Kitura and Jean-Mornay du Plessis presented at the Professional Pest Management Association of British Columbia (PPMABC) 2026 Symposium.

We're proud to see our students sharing their knowledge with industry professionals and representing KPU School of Horticulture. Congratulations to Liz and Jean-Mornay on this accomplishment!
