What an incredible art show! We want to thank all of you that put in the time and energy to celebrate Indigenous creators.🙂

The Gala had a fantastic turnout. The walls were full, the room was buzzing, and your artwork was a huge part of making the space so special. Thank you for being such an important part of this event and for helping make it such a meaningful success. And thank you to everyone that played a part in creating this welcoming and celebratory space, with music, atmosphere, remarks, votes, photography, attendance, set/up, and all the other important roles you played.

Be sure to tag your friend if you see their art in the video!! 🎨

We are proud of you, and you should be proud of you, too! ❤️
Keep creating, keep expressing yourself, and move forward with pride.

Miigwech/Thank you

Our Indigenous Transition and Learning Advisor, Andrea Kennedy, made one of her favourite ribbon skirts in our latest video! 💜

She made this beautiful skirt during one of our ribbon skirt-making events, and she’s worn it to our annual year-end gathering and Indigenous Artisan Market.

Watch our latest video to see Andrea’s ribbon skirt-making process and this special skirt come together! ✨

Today is Orange Shirt Day.

But why do we wear orange? 🧡
Orange Shirt Day was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, a Residential School Survivor.

When Phyllis was just six years old, she arrived at residential school wearing a new orange shirt given to her by her grandmother. When she arrived, her clothing and personal belongings were taken from her: including her orange shirt. It was never returned.

Today, the orange shirt has become a powerful symbol of what was taken from Indigenous children through the Residential School system: their culture, identity, language, family connections and sense of belonging.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, wearing orange is also a reminder of the importance of truth-telling, education, healing and the ongoing work of reconciliation.

🧡 Every Child Matters.

Today in Forwell Hall we will be holding an Indigenous Artisan Market, Orange Shirts Designed by Fanshawe Fine Arts Foundation student Robin Cornelius will be for sale from 10:00-2:00.
