Huron was proud to host a stop on the 2026 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.

Bringing together emerging leaders from across the country, the delegation visited campus to explore this year’s theme of Sustainable Prosperity. During their time at Huron, participants engaged in discussions about Canada’s long-term resilience, shared perspectives, and examined the role of leadership in addressing today’s complex social, economic, and global challenges.

Thank you to Huron’s President, Dr. Barry Craig, and Senior Strategic Advisor at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP, Nadir Patel, who engaged participants through their talks.

We were pleased to support this important national dialogue and showcase Huron as a place where thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and meaningful exchange thrive.

Happy Pride, Huron! 🌈

We celebrate and stand with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community as Pride is both a celebration of identity and a recognition of the ongoing work required to build a more inclusive and equitable world. We are committed to creating a campus where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to be themselves. We continue to learn, listen, and take action to foster a community rooted in belonging, dignity, and care.

As the outgoing president of Huron's Pride Club, Mehak's reflections on Pride point to the importance of community in providing a safe space for exploration and growth. There is much to be proud of, she adds, in everyone, "no matter where they are in their journey, for embracing who they are at their own pace."

This June, we recognize National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the histories, cultures, and enduring strength of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across the country.

At Huron, we remain dedicated to advancing Truth and Reconciliation through meaningful action on our campus and in the wider community.

Pictured is a soapstone sculpture titled "A Healing Song" by Vince Bomberry. Known as a healer on his reserve, Bomberry thinks about the powers that come from the land and how we are able to tap into these powers. Music, or song, is one way. People are able to sing and connect spiritually to the Great Creator. The inlay in the eyes represents when this powerful connection has been made. The bag of healing medicines, herbs, and gifts from Mother Earth are the other powerful gifts we have received from the Great Creator to enable us to encourage healing around us. The smoke rises, carrying our hopes and dreams skyward.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Ingrid Mattson on receiving an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Yale University in recognition of her extraordinary contributions as a scholar, interfaith leader, and advocate for dialogue and peace.

As Yale noted, Dr. Mattson’s work has been defined by “integrity, wisdom, and a steadfast commitment to dialogue across faiths”; values that continue to shape communities around the world and inspire our own at Huron.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Mattson on this remarkable honour.

Last week, we gathered to celebrate the conferring of the Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies degrees, along with the awarding of the Licentiate in Theology.

To our 2026 graduates, as you go forward, may you continue to be guided by a deep commitment to compassion, justice, and faithful service. May your formation at Huron shape the ways you lead, discern, and care for others in the communities you will serve.

Here’s to new beginnings, to lives rooted in purpose and service, and to the ongoing journey of becoming.

Congratulations as well to Archdeacon Rosalyn Kant’lat^tant Elm, who received the Huron honorary Doctor of Divinity degree and delivered the Convocation address.

Today marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. At Huron, we are committed to fostering a campus where members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community feel supported, celebrated, and safe, not just today, but every day.

This commitment is reflected in the launch of Huron’s first Q***r Literature course, created and instructed by Dr. Sarah Blanchette, a q***r advocate and ally on our campus. The course centres q***r joy and creates space for students to engage with diverse voices and lived experiences. Students explored themes of identity and community through hands-on experiences, including a student-run drag show and visits to the Pride Library.

These opportunities helped foster a strong sense of connection and belonging among students. Inclusion is not just a value, it is embedded in how we teach, learn, and grow together. Today and always, we stand as allies.
