Showcase week continues with final projects from MEDIACOM 2600B Introduction to Graphic Design & MEDIACOM 3781B Advanced Graphic Design!

Students were asked to build their designs from the ground up with physical methods before transferring them into a digital space.

Thanks to instructor Andrew Lewis for inviting us into the classroom space to capture these creative projects.

We are celebrating a milestone for long-time FIMS employee Cindy Morrison!

After 41 years at Western, guiding students, faculty and staff through countless successes, sticky wickets, conundrums and celebrations, Cindy has decided to close the library book on her career and start her next adventure in retirement.

Do you have fond memories of Cindy? Feel free to share them in the comments here, DM us or send us an email @ [email protected]

Meet some of the people behind the FIMS experience… just a few years earlier.

For MHIS graduate Andrea Antal, applied learning meant stepping into real-world clinical settings — working alongside teams in long-term care and emergency departments to explore how patient and staff experiences can be improved.

Through her community-partnered work, Andrea bridged classroom concepts with practice, gaining hands-on insight into how health systems function and how interdisciplinary teams make a difference.

In just one year, MHIS students move from theory → practice → impact.

Who should get a say in how AI shapes our lives?

That’s one of the questions driving the research of FIMS professor Joanna Redden, who studies the social justice implications of AI and how communities can take part in decisions about if, where, and how these technologies are used.

Her work has now been recognized with a 2026 Dorothy Killam Fellowship from The Killam Trusts. The fellowship recognizes leading researchers whose work has the potential to shape conversations on a national or global scale.

Last week, we marked Freedom to Read Week by asking a simple question: why does it matter? 📚

Our FIMS Graduate Library team shared their thoughts on intellectual freedom, book challenges, and why stories that explore difference deserve space on our shelves.

It’s easy to think of challenges as isolated incidents — but they’re part of a bigger conversation about access to information and diverse perspectives.

Freedom to Read Week is a reminder that access isn’t just about books but ideas too.

Thank you to our Library Director, Erin Bourgard, and MLIS Library Assistant, Shannon Scott (), for sharing their reflections. 💜

For Freedom to Read Week, we put our FIMS Grad Library staff to the test.

Do they know which books appear on the Canadian Freedom to Read Challenged Works Archive?

Young reader books featured in this round:
• Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
• Julián is a Mermaid by Jessica Love
• Vampire Cheerleaders Must Die by Katie Maxwell
• Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K Rowling
• The Prince and the Dressmaker by Ken Wang

Do any of the results surprise you?

When Katie Simpson returned to Western University for this year’s Clissold Lecture, she didn’t just talk about covering the Trump administration — she spoke about what it feels like to report in a world flooded with information.

She candidly shared her perspectives on information overload and the challenge of helping audiences find what truly matters. She also shared why she still believes deeply in journalism as a public service — one grounded in facts, context and nuance.

“What gives me hope in this moment is meeting journalism students who understand the value of an informed public.”

The Clissold Lecture commemorates Edward Clissold’s legacy and highlights the enduring importance of editors and journalists in public life.

The recorded lecture is now available to listen to online:
