As we celebrate the Class of 2026, we are also honoured to celebrate Liz Akiwenzie, who has been part of the King's community for many years.

Liz Akiwenzie, an Ojibwe and Oneida Knowledge Keeper, Cultural Educator, and ceremonial grandmother, will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws from Western University during King's Convocation and address our graduates as part of the morning ceremony.

Through her teachings, classroom visits, and presentations, Liz has generously shared her knowledge, time, and presence with our community, creating space for meaningful conversations about Indigenous knowledge, storytelling, ceremony, colonialism, and the responsibility of listening.

All are welcome to attend Liz Akiwenzie's Honorary Degree Reception, co-sponsored by King's, on June 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Wampum Learning Lodge.

King’s is proud to support the next generation of students as they begin their university experience.

King’s recently awarded 14 application-based Entrance Scholarship Awards totalling more than $44,000 to incoming students recognized for their strong academic achievement or demonstrated passion for leadership, social justice, and making a positive impact in their communities.

These scholarships help reduce financial barriers, allowing students to focus on learning, research, campus involvement, and making the most of their university experience.

We are excited to welcome these students to a community where they can grow, thrive, and make the most of their time at King’s.

Award-winning Anishinaabe journalist, author and storyteller Tanya Talaga will join King's for the President's Veritas Lecture, "Can Canada Move Towards Reconciliation?", on Thursday, September 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre.

A member of Fort William First Nation, Tanya has dedicated her career to sharing Indigenous stories and confronting truths about Canada's history and the ongoing impacts of colonialism. Through bestselling books including Seven Fallen Feathers, All Our Relations and The Knowing, she challenges audiences to reflect on what reconciliation requires.

Her lecture is part of the Veritas Lecture Series: The Courage of Encounter, which invites our community to listen deeply, engage difficult truths and reflect on our responsibility to one another.

As National Indigenous History Month begins, we invite the King's community to learn from Indigenous voices and perspectives and continue meaningful conversations about truth and reconciliation.

A new gift to King's will help more students access the support they need to pursue their education.

The $225,000 gift from the Denomy family will establish six annual continuing awards valued at $7,500 each beginning in Fall 2026, supporting students who may not otherwise have the financial or personal support to take that next step. The family has also committed $1 million through their estate plans to ensure the awards continue for generations to come.

The Denomy Family Awards reflect a belief in the power of education to change the direction of a person's life and the importance of having people behind them as they move forward.

At King's, that kind of support is central to who we are. It's financial assistance, encouragement from professors, a community where students are known, and people who believe in them as they build their future.

At King’s, supporting the community means supporting the people who care for it.

Through the King’s Community Support Centre (KCSC), King’s recently welcomed more than 200 helping professionals to a free, two-day training event designed to support those working on the front lines of mental health, homelessness and community care in London.

Helping professionals often face moral distress and limited access to training and support. By creating space for learning, connection and peer support, King’s is doing its part to strengthen the people tackling some of our community’s most complex challenges.
