Today, Huron marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day honours the histories and lived experiences of Indigenous peoples, recognizing the enduring impacts of the residential school system and commemorating the children who never returned home, as well as survivors, their families, and communities.
Truth and reconciliation urges us not only to remember, but to listen, learn, reflect, and act. Today and every day, we remain committed to creating space for meaningful dialogue, deepening our knowledge of Indigenous communities, and continuing the work of reconciliation.
At Huron, we observe a non-instructional day to provide our community with an opportunity to reflect on Canada's colonial history, learn from Indigenous voices and teachings, and reaffirm our shared responsibilities in advancing reconciliation.

We acknowledge that Huron University College is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Attawandaron, and Lūnaapéewak peoples, whose sharing and stewardship of the land have been governed by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum. We are guided by this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship, and respect, and we are grateful to learn, work, and gather on these lands.
