This is a day to honour the millions of people who endured and resisted the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade. It's a time for reflection on this painful chapter in human history and a reminder of the continuing fight against racism and injustice. The day calls on individuals and communities to learn about this history and commemorate the strength and resilience of those who fought for freedom.

Red Dress Day, also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People, is observed annually on May 5. The day serves to raise awareness and honour the memory of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who have gone missing or have been murdered in Canada.

The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S) crisis in Canada refers to the disproportionately high rates of violence, disappearance, and murder among Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people. The crisis has been ongoing for decades and is a result of systemic racism, colonialism, and gender-based violence.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day. The day is dedicated to raising awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ensuring that individuals with ASD have the same rights and freedoms as everyone else. The day focuses on fostering acceptance, appreciation, education, and advocating for equal opportunities and human rights. Approximately 1 in 50 children and youth are diagnosed with ASD in Canada. The colour blue is associated with World Autism Awareness Day; therefore, we encourage everyone to wear blue to show their support for people who have autism.

The International Transgender Day of Visibility honours the hardships, giving ups, and victories of those who have battled and are still fighting for gender parity. On this day, we celebrate the friends, family, coworkers, and neighbours who make Canada a more diverse place and remember that transgender and non-binary people still face discrimination just for being who they are.

On March 4, Black Mental Health Day is observed. Every year, it is recognized on the first Monday in March, the Monday after Black History Month. Its goal is to lessen the stigma and provide resources for Black communities to talk about mental health. The day also serves to increase awareness beyond Black communities, by highlighting the terrible effects of anti-Black racism and enticing Canadians to take action against it wherever and whenever they can.
