A workshop on Identity, Belonging and Agency with Yabome Gilpin-Jackson, PhD.

Who am I?
Where do I belong?
What am I called to?

Three questions that form the bases of the IBA ( / / ) developmental framework informed by Yabome's practice of using lived experience in creative writing. The framework is embedded in the core themes of the short story and flash fiction collections (Black identity politics/dynamics), (belonging & rootedness) and (agency). Yabome’s own lived experience and readings from the collections will be interspersed with activities that invite participants to explore the questions Who am I? Where do I belong? What am I called to?

Let's unpack how our identities and anchoring to places and spaces of belonging grounds us and our choice to exercise agency moves us towards whatever we are called and destined to be and do.

This Human Interaction Laboratory is a six-day (five night) residential program. Its unique experiential design consists of small and large group sessions whereby a semi-structured learning environment will assist you in developing your competencies in the following areas:

New studies suggest that diverse neighborhoods are more likely to generate prosocial helpful behaviors, making community-building in these neighborhoods easier.

By having more contact with those different from ourselves strengthens the bonds of our common humanity and the obligations we have to one another.
