The Schulich Saxophone Studio wishes to thank everyone who came to our final class concert of the academic year over the weekend! Our studio members collaborated with several instrumentalists including Uchite (the formal name for those who play the Taiko Drum!), mezzo-soprano voice, piano (of course, we love our collaborative pianist guests!), and the Credo String Quartet (formed of graduated master's level and doctoral level students from various studios at McGill).

We aren't *quite* done though... our studio members will be putting on their chamber music hats to celebrate the saxophone quartet medium TONIGHT during the Woodwind Chamber Music Concert! Come by Clara Lichenstein Hall at 20h00 to hear the Metal Quartet (Kirby Leitz, DMus Year 4; Amelia McLeod, MMus Year 2; Toby Kimura, MMus Year 2; and Christopher Curry, MMus Year 1), the Wood Quartet (Sylvan Wilkinson, Mmus Year 1; Devyn Collette, BMus Year 5; Madelyn Carter, Mmus Year 2, and Liz Andresen, Mmus Year 1), and the Crystal Quartet (Ayari Kasukawa, Mmus Year 1; Callum Harding, BMus Year 2; Nickey Lamoureux, BMus Year 2; and Yunxiang Wan, BMus Year 5)!

Each of these Saxophone Quartets will be presenting a wide variety of wonderful repertoire, including a premiere of this year's Composer in Residence Composition (written by Master's Composition Student Nicolas Ma, performed by the Metal Quartet)!

We're just getting started for this month... stay tuned!!

Here at the McGill Saxophone Studio, our studio members are consistently seeking ways to enrich our musical lives. Often this spirit manifests in unique performative projects, research endeavors, commissioning projects, chamber ensembles experiences, and so forth! Each member pursues with inspiring fervor their own musical journey. All that said... we are incredibly excited to highlight the results of one such collaborative endeavor as we near the end of 2025!

First year master's student Christopher Curry has been hard at work this year collaborating with Québécois composer Robert Lemay towards a new recording!

This past February, the Wind, String, Hammer Trio (Christopher Curry, Saxophone; Connor Sobieraj, Cello; and Nicolas Ma, Piano) had the wonderful opportunity to record Lemay's "A Short Answer!" Recorded in the Multimedia Media Room (MMR, Elizabeth Wirth Music Building), they were also greatly supported by the audio mixing expertise of Rebecca Lee.

Fast forward to now, all parties involved in this collaborative project are incredibly proud of the resultant recording! It is available NOW and ready for your listening pleasure here:
