Tao Jiang is Professor of Religion and Philosophy at Rutgers University.

Prof. Tao Jiang will explore how Buddhist compassion-centered ethics might contribute to a conception of justice by bringing compassion and justice into a conversation.

✨Alumni Spotlight✨: William O'Shea completed an MA in Philosophy from Concordia University in 2019, and, in 2025, he graduated from York University’s PhD Philosophy program. His dissertation was on the topic of public health ethics, particularly how to change public health norms respectfully and effectively. After graduation, William pursued a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute for Medical Ethics at Ruhr-University Bochum in Germany. Here he developed expertise in mental healthcare ethics. William is the lead author of a paper, just submitted for publication, on clinical ethics consultations involving risk of third-party harm. He currently works as the Ethics Fellow in the Department of Clinical and Organizational Ethics at University Health Network, Toronto.

His summer research project, "The Inferential Structure of Knowledge," is supervised by Prof. Ulf Hlobil.

The Department of Philosophy is pleased to announce that Isabelle Ranger, pursuing a BA Major in Political Science and Major in Philosophy, is the winner of the 2026 Annual Prize for Best Undergraduate Paper for her essay titled "Historicizing Disposition: A Non-Naturalistic Reading of Hegel on Marriage."
