PGSS Environment Committee The PGSS Environment Committee (PEC) works with PGSS members, staff and executives on campus environmental issues.

This includes monitoring PGSS’ policies relating to environmental issues, ensuring representation on university environmental committees and groups, and planning educational events for PGSS members that ensure interaction on environmental issues between the PGSS and greater Montreal community. As outlined in the Society Affairs Manual, the mandate of the committee is to:

1. Assess, monitor and ma

ke recommendations for the improvement of the PGSS’ operations in relation to the environment.

2. Elicit opinions of PGSS members on the environment.

3. Collaborate with other environmental groups and offices;

4. Be responsible for the education of PGSS members on environmental issues.

5. Make recommendations to the PGSS on environmentally related matters. Our membership includes the Environment Commissioner (chair), five at-large regular members of PGSS as well as the society’s representatives to The Senate Committee on Physical Development (SCPD) and The Sustainability Projects Fund (SPF). We’re always looking for unofficial members to help us at events as well as feedback and ideas for new initiatives and projects. Our last Lunch&Learn session of the school year is happening next week!

You are invited to last Green Labs Initiative’s Lunch & Learn Session titled “Sustainable Labs Certification”! - a certification soon to be offered by the McGill Office of Sustainability (MOOS) and Kimberly John.
This is an interactive hybrid event where you will learn how certifying your lab can benefit & reward you!

Topic: Sustainable Labs Certification
In this session, you will learn about:
• How lab certification can support green lab goals
• McGill’s experience with lab certification
• My Green Lab certification pilot project
• McGill Sustainable Labs certification
• Road-map for scaling-up McGill’s Sustainable Labs certification

All lab users at McGill are invited to attend the Green Labs Initiative Lunch &Learn on Green Chemistry. This is an interactive hybrid event to introduce the audience to some the concepts of green chemistry and how it can be employed in different lab environments to be more sustainable.

Topic: Green Chemistry

In this session, you will learn:
What is the need to re-imagine chemistry
How can Green Chemistry principles initiate a paradigm shift and be embedded in laboratory pedagogy
How can laboratories procure and use chemicals more sustainably
What are some tools and strategies to practice Green Chemistry in the lab
