McGill Interprofessional Global Health Course

McGill student-led global health course for McGill students in health science professional programs.

This very unique course was created by students who wanted more global health content out of their education. The course is open to students from the faculties of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, dentistry, kinesiology, psychology, dietetics and human nutrition and communication science. The course will be held on Tuesday evenings, from January 13th to March 24t

h, 2015. Exciting topics included in the course: Ethics in Global Health, Climate Change, Aboriginal Health, Mental Health, Comparative Healthcare Systems, Infectious Disease, and more. The course is a non-credit elective; however, students will earn a certificate of completion if they attend 8 out of 10 classes as well as submit a brief reflective assignment. Attendance will be noted and students are required to fill in course evaluations at the end of each session. Student Coordinators

A thoughtful conversation on the role of AI in shaping the future of global health 🌐💡

With perspectives spanning policy, epidemiology, and clinical research, Mr. Ricardo Chejfec, Dr. Robert W. Platt, and Dr. Sonia Anand explored how artificial intelligence is beginning to reshape how evidence is generated, interpreted, and applied in global health.

From data and research methods to policy decisions and patient care, the discussion highlighted both the promise of these tools and the risks they carry if questions of bias, governance, and equity are not addressed 🧠📊

An insightful session on oral health in the context of global health 🌍🦷

Dr. Madathil highlighted his work in oral cancer research, with a focus on integrating prediction modeling to support earlier diagnosis and more precise risk stratification. A powerful example of how data-driven approaches can strengthen prevention strategies and improve outcomes in global health settings.

Dr. Shashika Bandara challenged us to confront uncomfortable truths about a field that is deeply political, rooted in colonial histories, and shaped by governance failures, funding inequities, and epistemic injustice 🔎

A timely push to move beyond passive awareness toward courage, imagination, and action. The future of global health will be shaped by who leads, who listens, and who is willing to shift power ⚖️

Dr. Nicholas King dug into the hard questions behind priority-setting, measurement, and showed us that “doing the right thing” is rarely simple 🔎

A timely reminder that ethical discomfort is part of the work, and that equity and justice depend on how (and why) we choose to act 📈
