A major moment for the Gina Cody School and for Concordia University’s role in the future of space innovation in Canada.

A $15 million gift from entrepreneur, investor and astronaut Mark Pathy will launch the Mark Pathy Space Institute at Concordia.

Based at the Gina Cody School, the institute will bring together research, student training, hands-on experimentation and industry partnerships in space engineering. Its integrated focus on robotics, propulsion, human space health and sustainability will create new opportunities for students and researchers to help shape Canada’s growing space sector.

Un moment marquant pour l’École Gina-Cody et pour le rôle de Concordia dans l’avenir de l’innovation spatiale au Canada.

Un don de 15 millions de dollars de l’entrepreneur, investisseur et astronaute Mark Pathy permettra de lancer l’Institut de l’espace Mark-Pathy à Concordia.

Établi à l’École Gina-Cody, l’institut réunira recherche, formation étudiante, expérimentation pratique et partenariats avec l’industrie en génie astronautique. Son approche intégrée en robotique, en propulsion, en santé humaine dans l’espace et en durabilité ouvrira de nouvelles possibilités aux étudiantes, aux étudiants et aux chercheurs qui souhaitent contribuer à l’essor du secteur spatial canadien.

Congratulations to Professor Chunjiang An on receiving a Dorothy Killam Fellowship for research helping protect Arctic and coastal environments.

A professor in our Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering, An is advancing oil spill response, shoreline protection and solutions to plastic pollution in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions.

The fellowship will support new work focused on Arctic and Subarctic coastlines in collaboration with Indigenous partners.

Félicitations au professeur Chunjiang An, récipiendaire d’une bourse Dorothy-Killam décernée par Killam Trusts - Les fiducies Killam pour ses recherches visant à protéger les milieux arctiques et côtiers.

Professeur à notre Département de génie du bâtiment, civil et environnemental, il fait progresser les interventions en cas de déversement d’hydrocarbures, la protection du littoral et les solutions à la pollution plastique dans certaines des régions les plus vulnérables du monde.

La bourse appuiera de nouveaux travaux sur les côtes arctiques et subarctiques en collaboration avec des partenaires autochtones.

All depend on cybersecurity.

Yet tens of thousands of cybersecurity roles across Canada remain unfilled.

At the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, we now offer two new undergraduate programs:

• Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity
• Bachelor of Engineering in Cybersecurity

Students can choose between a focused science pathway or the first undergraduate engineering degree in Canada dedicated entirely to cybersecurity.

From secure software and network defence to critical infrastructure protection and AI-enabled cyber defence, students gain hands-on experience through co-op, research placements and internships.

Applications are open for fall 2026.

Les personnes étudiantes peuvent choisir entre un parcours spécialisé en sciences ou le premier diplôme de premier cycle en génie au Canada entièrement consacré à la cybersécurité.

Du développement de logiciels sécurisés et de la sécurité des réseaux à la protection des infrastructures critiques et à la cyberdéfense basée sur l’intelligence artificielle, les étudiantes et étudiants acquièrent une expérience concrète grâce aux stages coopératifs, aux stages de recherche et aux stages en entreprise.

Les candidatures sont ouvertes pour l’automne 2026.

À l’approche de ses deuxièmes Jeux olympiques, la skieuse acrobatique et étudiante en génie aérospatial à l'École Gina-Cody revient sur la pression, le risque et l’équilibre entre sport de haut niveau et études.

AI that understands speech as easily as text is getting closer.

Luca Della Libera, a PhD student at Concordia University's Gina Cody School, and assistant professor Mirco Ravanelli have developed FocalCodec. It compresses speech while keeping both the sound and the meaning clear at a very low bitrate. This makes speech easier for large language models to process and supports the next generation of voice based AI.

The work was accepted at NeurIPS, one of the world’s leading conferences in artificial intelligence. It is also part of an active collaboration with Mila - Institut québécois d'intelligence artificielle.

The project also includes contributions from Francesco Paissan and Cem Subakan.

Une IA qui comprend les paroles aussi facilement que le texte se rapproche grâce aux recherches menées à Concordia.

We are proud to celebrate Chunjiang An who received the 2026 Mehran Alaee Early Career Researcher Award from the Chemical Institute of Canada / Institut de Chimie du Canada for his leadership in pollution control and sustainable remediation.

Since joining Concordia University in 2018, he has built an internationally recognized research program in environmental engineering with strong results in research funding, publications and student supervision.

His work also reflects a deep commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility through meaningful collaborations with Indigenous partners across Canada.
