First-year Master’s students in ARCH 672: Architectural Design Studio 1 visit the Moshe Safdie Archive, part of the John Bland Canadian Architecture Collection.

Led by archivist Tellina Liu Tellina Liu, students explore a collection of architectural documents, including primarily hand-drawn drawings from Safdie’s work. The visit supports their ongoing studio research and design work with prefabricated modules.

For many students, the annual tradition of Sketching School marks the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. This year’s course brings students to Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, and is led by Prof David Covo with Master’s students Sonia Xu and Alexandra Thiboutot Alexandra Thiboutot .

Join us in room 206 on May 6th at 4 pm for, Archival Lives of Architecture, organized by Matthew Allen. Kai Wang and Ying Wang, from Tongji University examine how architectural archives are being actively constructed and re-interpreted in contemporary China. Through case studies of institutional collections and state-owned design institutes, the talks position the archive not as a passive repository but as a site of reading, curation, teaching, and design cognition. Together, they open a discussion on historiography, authorship, and the production of architectural knowledge across institutional contexts.
