As wildfire risks grow across Canada, strengthening readiness and resilience starts with recognizing that place is more than geography. It is shaped by interconnected social, cultural, environmental, economic, and governance systems. For northern and remote Indigenous communities, this includes generations of place-based knowledge of land, vegetation, seasonal conditions, fire, and stewardship. Strengthening resilience therefore requires moving beyond consultation toward investing in the governance, resources, and decision-making space for Indigenous leadership from the outset.

This Policy Lab team (Aaliyah Lahai, Manuelitha Darlie Jean, and Anna Cipolla) encourages viewers to continue learning directly from Indigenous-led research, advocacy, and stewardship organizations already leading this work:
