Patrick graduated this spring with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science and a minor in Management. 🌦️

Throughout his degree, he really enjoyed being part of the department’s small, close-knit community and having the opportunity to take part in research projects.

Four years ago, Astrid Parrot moved from Senegal to Montreal to study, leaving her home and family for the first time to begin her BSc Honours Chemistry degree at McGill. Without a clear picture of what her future would look like, she took what she describes as “a leap of faith."

She immersed herself into university life, living in residence her first year and meeting new people. She had found her place at McGill, but uncertainty lingered throughout her degree as she quietly wondered whether chemistry was truly the right path for her.

🎉 Congratulations to Mette Bendixen (Geography) and Kai Wang (Physics), who were awarded the 2026 President’s Prize for Outstanding Emerging Researchers at convocation ceremonies held on May 28 and May 29!

The annual prize recognizes early-career researchers who have distinguished themselves by their exceptional contributions to research.

Guan Xi has made the most of her time at McGill as an Honours Computer Science and Biology student. 💻🔬

As a recent graduate, she reflects on the experiences that shaped her undergraduate years, from research, an internship in Japan, opportunities in science communication, student involvement, and the community she built along the way.

She also shares what’s next: a PhD at Cornell University.

Tout au long de ses études en informatique et en biologie à l’université McGill, Guan Xi s’est engagée dans ses études et ses expériences. 💻🔬

Fraîchement diplômée, elle revient sur les expériences qui ont marqué ses années d’études. Entre la recherche, un stage au Japon, des activités de communication scientifique, des engagements étudiants et une communauté qu’elle s’est faite au fil de son parcours.

This past summer, undergraduate student Aditya Sharma conducted research in Prof. Bettina Kemme’s Distributed Information Systems Lab as a Science Undergraduate Research Award (SURA) student, studying the energy consumption of Machine Learning models in Network Traffic Classification tasks.

L’été dernier, Aditya Sharma, étudiant de premier cycle, a mené des recherches au sein du Distributed Information Systems Lab de la professeure Bettina Kemme dans le cadre du programme Science Undergraduate Research Award (SURA). Il a étudié la consommation énergétique des modèles d’apprentissage automatique dans les tâches de classification du trafic réseau.
