Mind, Brain, and Culture Research Network of McGill University Mind, Brain, and Culture Research Network of McGill University

The Mind, Brain, and Culture initiative will bring together researchers from neuroscience and those working in related disciplines – cognitive science, psychology, computer science, genetics, anthropology, sociology, and philosophy among others – to develop novel theoretical and empirical methods for understanding brain function as well as neurological and psychiatric illness. The MBC initiative i

s founded on the idea that a successful science of the brain must understand the brain in its bodily, environmental, social, and cultural context, and it will build on research in epigenetics, cognitive, social, and cultural neuroscience to add a novel dimension to McGill neuroscience. The initiative is also concerned with the ways in which neuroscience speaks to broader cultural concerns about the nature of the mind, the self, morality, and art, as well as the role of neuroscience as a social institution.
