Happy Jerusalem Day!

Commemorated each year on the 28th of the Hebrew month of Iyar, this day marks the return of Jewish access to the Western Wall and the reunification of Israel’s eternal capital.

Jerusalem stands as a symbol of history, resilience, faith, and hope, where ancient tradition and modern life come together in one extraordinary city.

Yom Ha’atzmaut Sameach! 🇮🇱

78 years ago, a nation was reborn. Rooted in ancient history, shaped by sacrifice, and sustained by hope. Today we celebrate not only independence, but the resilience of a people who turned longing into reality.

From sorrow to renewal, from memory to strength, Israel’s story continues to unfold.

May this day be filled with pride, gratitude, and hope for the future.

🇮🇱 !עם ישראל חי 🇮🇱

Today, we remember those who gave their lives in defence of the State of Israel, and the victims of acts of terror whose lives were taken too soon.

On Yom HaZikaron, we honour their sacrifice, their courage, and the families who carry their memory every day. The freedom and security of Israel are bound to their legacy.

We stand in mourning, in gratitude, and in remembrance.

May their memory be a blessing.

🕯️

Today, we remember.

Six million Jewish lives. Men, women, and children, taken in one of history’s darkest chapters. Six million stories, dreams, and futures that will never be forgotten.

On Yom HaShoah, we honour their memory, the resilience of survivors, and the courage of those who resisted in the face of unimaginable evil.

We light candles not only in mourning, but in defiance, ensuring that their light continues to shine through us.

May their memory be a blessing.
Never again.

"Late Blossoms: Stories"

Late Blossoms captures a vivid image of Jerusalem, past and present, through the eyes of its diverse inhabitants, specifically historical and contemporary migrant women artists. The stories in the central part of the collection are set at a literary salon hosted in the mid-twentieth century at the Jerusalem residence of painter Anna Ticho and her husband, ophthalmologist Dr. Albert Ticho. Each story features as its protagonist a different character, all of them migrant European women writers, poets, or painters. Inspired by historical figures, among them Anna Ticho, Rachel Bluwstein-Sela, Zelda Schneurson-Mishkovsky, Else Lasker-Schüler, Leah Goldberg, and Nelly Sachs, these characters reappear in the linked short stories. Meeting on a regular basis to share their creative work and discuss the challenges of writing and painting in a new and unfamiliar environment, language, and culture, these women shaped the emerging State of Israel’s literary, artistic, cultural, and intellectual scenes.

Bio:
Dr. Merav Fima is the author of the acclaimed short story collection Late Blossoms (Vine Leaves Press, 2025) and of the forthcoming mystical Sephardic migration novel, The Rose of Thirteen Petals and the Pomegranate Tree (Running Wild Press, 2027).

Originally from Montreal, she is currently based in Melbourne, Australia, where she earned her Ph.D. in Creative Writing from Monash University. Several of her short stories have been honored in literary contests and her work has appeared in anthologies and literary journals worldwide, including: Meanjin Quarterly; Parchment; Poetica Magazine; and The Australian Book Review.

She was awarded a grant for “exceptionally talented writers” from the Israel Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, as well as a translation grant from the Israel Science Foundation for her translation of Gal Ventura’s scholarly monograph, Maternal Breast-Feeding and Its Substitutes in Nineteenth-Century French Art (Brill, 2018).

Description:
October 7: The Wars Over Words and Deeds is a collection of essays by scholars that seeks to analyze how words and imagery used to categorize the violence and savagery of the October 7th assaults by Hamas have been used to reframe the historical narrative of this century-long conflict into an avalanche of antisemitism and cultural toxicity that has attempted to reshape American society, impacting politics, media, and academia.

Edited by Jewish studies scholar and Middle East political scientist Donna Robinson Divine, and Asaf Romirowsky, historian and the executive director of both the Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) and the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA), the essays collected in October 7: The Wars Over Words and Deeds offer a mixture of data-driven analysis with a careful account of narratives and ideology to measure how much of a footprint October 7 leaves on war and peace in the world going forward.
