Donate to the Computer Science Undergraduate Society! Donations made today through McGill24 will be matched.

Hey everyone! The Computer Science Undergraduate Society is taking part in McGill Crowdfunding, which is McGill’s long-running university fundraising platform for student and grassroots projects. It’s been around since 2014, and has supported more than 170 student clubs and projects. McGill24 (today, March 11th) is the big 24-hour giving day tied to it, and last year McGill24 brought in 7,181 gifts totaling $5.34M across the university.
This is a significant opportunity, and we at CSUS need your support to reach our fundraising goals so we can continue giving back to our community in meaningful ways.

Our CSUS Crowdfunding page is here:

Our fundraiser is focused on 3 things:

1. Keeping the CSUS Helpdesk running well
A lot of CS students use the Helpdesk for peer tutoring and academic support during the semester. It’s one of the most practical services we offer, especially when courses get heavy. We use it to fund tutors who help students for 5 days a week, 6 hours a day, and it also supports extra academic help around midterm and final seasons.

2. Expanding academic events and industry mentorship
We want to put more into events that actually help students figure out what comes next, whether that’s choosing courses, getting research exposure, preparing for internships, learning about different career paths, or meeting people in industry and grad school who can give useful guidance.

3. Making CSUS social events more accessible
A lot of our events are free, but for ticketed events, costs add up quickly. Part of this fundraiser is about reducing the per-student cost so more people can actually attend, instead of price becoming the reason they opt out.
One of the biggest reasons we’re pushing this campaign is that funding for Helpdesk tutors has been reduced, which makes it harder to maintain the same level of tutor support, hours, and compensation without raising money elsewhere. This fundraiser helps us keep academic support sustainable while also continuing to build out the academic, career, and community side of CSUS.

Also, today matters more than the rest of the campaign. Our page stays up until May 10, but donations made to McGill Crowdfunding projects today are eligible for up to 1:1 matching. McGill also states there is no minimum donation amount, and that gifts to designated areas are honoured.
So if you’ve ever used the Helpdesk, attended a CSUS event, benefited from academic support, or simply want to support CS students at McGill, please consider sharing this post with your family, friends, and alumni networks, as well as making a donation:

Thank you, friends of CSUS! We appreciate you all.

Best,
