While clinical training is a cornerstone of the Doctor of Dental Medicine program, McGill students also have opportunities to engage in research that contributes to improving the future of oral health care. Fourth-year student Samer Karkout earned first place at the 55th Annual Canadian Dental Association /Dentsply Sirona Student Clinician Research Program. 🏆

Under the supervision of Dr. Amal Idrissi Janati, Assistant Professor and Research Director for the GPR and OMFS Residency Programs at the Montreal General Hospital site, Samer’s project explored survival outcomes in oral cancer patients and factors that can help improve treatment planning and patient care. 💙

The Run for MMDC is back after a six- year absence! Organized by DMD students Hunter Bradley, Maïa Vitoratos and Serena Chouery, the run brought together students, staff, faculty and alumni on September 19 to raise money for the McGill Mobile Dental Clinic (MMDC). Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported Run for MMDC. Your enthusiasm and generosity help the MMDC continue its mission of improving access to oral health care in our community. 🏃‍♀️ 🦷

Oral healthcare should be accessible to everyone. 💜

The McGill Special Care Dental Medicine Residency program provides advanced training focused on the care of seniors and individuals who are neurodiverse or have an intellectual disability.

Recent resident Dr. Ninoska Enriquez says,

“McGill’s Special Care Dental Medicine GPR program is an exceptional opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills while providing compassionate, individualized care to patients with complex needs. It prepared me to make a meaningful difference in the oral health and well-being of underserved and vulnerable populations.”

Following graduation, she is providing dental care to seniors in long-term care facilities in the Santé Québec West-Central Montreal Health and Social Services network.

Applications for the Faculty’s Graduate Diploma in Oral Medicine are open until October 10, 2026.

This three-year, 30 credit specialty program prepares dentists for advanced clinical practice, research, and teaching in Oral Medicine through comprehensive training and clinical rotations in McGill-affiliated hospitals.

Students must also apply to and complete the Master of Dental Sciences (Thesis) concurrently with the diploma program.

Graduates are eligible to pursue specialty certification through the National Dental Specialty Examination and the Fellowship Examination of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

📅 Application period: September 15 – October 10, 2026.
🎓Program start date: July 1, 2027
