🗨️ “I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know Asian Heritage Month was ‘a thing’ until recently! Maybe that’s one of the most typically Asian things about me.”

Tara’s journey reflects the richness of this diversity. Born to Indian parents who immigrated to the United Kingdom, and having since lived and worked across the world before settling in Quebec with her family, she brings a deeply human perspective to questions of identity, belonging, and leadership.

Last weekend, the 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭 module came alive through lively discussions, rich exchanges, inspiring encounters, and activities that step outside the usual framework such as quilt making and puzzles, all in a setting that was both playful and deeply focused on learning.

A heartfelt thank you to Johanne Brunet, Director of the 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭 module of the Executive MBA, as well as to all professors, experts, and guest speakers who helped make this weekend such a stimulating and inspiring experience for the Class of 2027.

Over five intensive days, we explored creativity and innovation from multiple perspectives, including innovation leadership, navigating uncertainty, emergent thinking, consumer neuroscience and AI, digital platforms, scenario planning, healthcare innovation, artistic entrepreneurship, and value creation.

Thank you to Susie Braam, Robert Nason, Jean-François Harvey, Sylvain Senecal, Frédéric Brousseau, Alain Pinsonneault, Jean-Marc De Jonghe, Jared Lee, Kathy Malas, Daniel Lamarre, Gregory Charles, Marie-Pierre Dubé, and Pierre Balloffet for your generosity, insights, and real-world experience.

This module showed us that managing innovation is not only about generating ideas. It is about understanding how creativity unfolds within organizations and developing the leadership needed to bring those ideas to life.

Kathryn Potvin, EMBA 2026, is an example of the depth of impact the EMBA McGill HEC Montréal experience can have, even for highly experienced and accomplished leaders.
In September 2024, she began a new role as Senior Director, Banking & Financial Services at Alithya while also starting the Executive MBA program. With more than two decades of experience in sales and client management, Kathryn already held senior leadership responsibilities and supported financial institutions in navigating complex transformation initiatives and delivering value-driven outcomes.
Despite an already accomplished trajectory, Kathryn describes the EMBA as a meaningful accelerator of her leadership development and impact.
🗨️ “I undertook the EMBA journey to evolve my leadership, moving from operational excellence to true strategic influence. The program strengthened my ability to lead and profoundly changed the way I analyze complexity and align people and priorities.”
One of the most significant outcomes, even for a seasoned leader, was a renewed and strengthened sense of confidence in her leadership choices and direction. Every module became a space for reflection and perspective shift, particularly around strategy and value creation, reinforcing how she approaches complexity and senior decision making.
🗨️ “There are not enough words to describe the experience: it must be lived to be understood.”
Another key dimension of her journey is her EMBA final research paper, where Kathryn explored strategic leadership in B2B sales teams. Her work is featured by the Institut de vente HEC Montréal: https://institutdevente.hec.ca/leadership-strategique-b2b/
Designed for leaders like Kathryn, the EMBA experience supports seasoned professionals in sharpening their strategic lens, strengthening their leadership confidence, and expanding their capacity to lead with clarity and impact in complex environments.
