CSSA 2021-2022 TEAM ELECTION
Candidate: Yujing Chen

Self-introduction: Hello everyone, this is Yujing Chen. It is my honor to run for VP Finance during this election. My major is in Accountancy and this is my second year at CSSA. Being a friendly and approachable person, I care about what the VP of Finance can do for CSSA and I am passionate about being a part to take our union forward.

Q: What makes you qualified for this position?
A: Over these 2 years at CSSA, I have developed a sufficient understanding of how our student union works and my accounting background can further support me as VP Finance. Besides, as a visionary and rational person, I believe, for this role, it is important to set goals to work forward and keep everything good on track.

Q: How do you handle stress?
A: When I am in a stressful situation, I often stop to take a step back and allow myself some time to think and plan. For instance, when I work on multiple tasks simultaneously, I prioritize each task by its urgency and importance, so that I can have a clearer view in my mind. Then I become more efficient with my time. I break the big tasks up into separate and individual activities and work out with each of them. By doing this, the tasks become more manageable and far less stressful.

Q: How do you handle internal conflicts?
A: When dealing with conflicts, it is important to ask questions and listen to both sides’ view. If I know what their interpretation of the situation is, it is easier to work out a solution. Then, it is to persuade both sides to calm down and put themselves in another’s shoes and understand their perspective.

Q: How will you keep current members active?
A: Especially during COVID-19, it is critical to keep members active by building ties with each other. I think online video chat and virtual game night (or day) are good options to involve all current members during this pandemic as these are great for sparking inspiration.

CSSA 2021-2022 TEAM ELECTION
Candidate: Yue Yu

I have joined the CSSA marketing department since 2019 and have participated in various types of copywriting and editorial work, as well as managing the official CSSA WeChat account. During these two years, I have been involved in offline activities such as Food Fair, On-street Interviews, Montreal food explorations, etc. During the epidemic, I was working on the promotion of the online werewolf event, the promotion of the International Student Chinese New Year Party and the Ugly Sweater Competition, etc. which gave me experience in promoting various types of events in the future. In the process of managing the official CSSA WeChat account, I have gained a deeper understanding about the needs of students and parents, and I will be able to make relevant articles to address the questions they often ask, to attract more people to the CSSA organisation. And I have improved a lot in dealing with difficult questions and unreasonable requests and responding to them. Also have experience in using words to promote on social media platforms, which will help me a lot in future when training new members on social media platforms.
If I am honoured to be the vice president, I will arrange the work that best suits each member according to their talents and abilities, with a clear division of duties to create a fair work scheme. Keep members in communication with each other about the progress of missions so that adjustments can be made at reasonable moments to better complete team works. Also organize fellowship activities when time and conditions permit, so that we can get to know each other better, thus improving the team's cohesion and sense of belonging.
I think it is normal for conflicts to occur in the cooperation of internal departments, because the understanding of inter-departmental cooperation is slowly cultivated. Personally, I would prefer to listen to each other's opinions and ideas as long as we all share the same goal for the organisation. Review my programme for mistakes and make corrections and adjustments. Avoid arguments, resolve and discuss issues in the right frame of mind and show appreciation for the help of other departments.
The year 2020 was extraordinary, with the epidemic separating us in both Canada and China. With all the events moving online, there is no 100% guarantee for everyone that every event will be a success. I think the source of this anxiety is not the challenge of the thing itself, but the inherent pattern we have when faced with a challenge, which is not wanting to let things get out of control and to prepare it perfectly. When faced with this uncertainty, I usually order everything I'm going to do from major to minor and predict several worst outcomes, judging the possible consequences. Turning the unexpected into the predictable, thereby reducing my stress level.
Over the past two years, I am grateful for the guidance and help I have received from the older members of CSSA. It is also an honour to be part of this family and to help those international students who are as confused as I was when I first arrived. I will continue to do my best to make more people aware of the excellent CSSA organisation.

CSSA 2021-2022 TEAM ELECTION
Candidate: Daixin Zhao

Self-introduction: I am Daixin Zhao from the internal department CSSA, and I worked in CSSA for two years. Today I would like to run for the internal VP. During the past two years, I made a lot of friends, and have been involved in many activities, and I grew up a lot. I think I learned more valuable stuff than the knowledge I learned in school. Two years of work experience makes me more confident to run internal VP. In the coming year, I would try my best to manage my team and assist the president.

Q: How would you handle internal conflicts?
A: If there is a conflict between departments, firstly president and vice presidents should have a meeting about the conflict, and they discuss and vote on the solutions. Then all members would have a meeting and announce that solution and vote for it. After solving the conflict, we can organize some activities among these departments, which can promote communication.

Q: How will you keep current members active?
A: We can establish a reward and punishment system. A team that can run for a long time must have active people and lazy people. Therefore, there should be a reward and punishment system for the work completed and the work attitude of different people in a team. For example, oral praise, or appoint an individual bonus point system, or select a monthly star; and the punishment can be a performance at a regular meeting or a deduction of points for an individual.

Q: What makes you qualified for this position?
A: I have worked in the internal department for two years, and I am familiar with the work in this department. In the past two years, I learned how to write meeting records, coordinating member’s time, buy office supplies, and organize team-building. Then I am a careful person and good at handling interpersonal relationships. I will try my best to manage our internal department and assistant all CSSA.

Q: How do you handle stress?
A: I work better under stress and I find that I like to work in challenging environments. Good stress can motivate me to work hard. And I will be more productive instead of generating a lot of negative emotions. I can arrange time reasonably, which could be less stressful. I also can easily cope with it and make the team feel that working with me is very pleasant even if it is stressful. For example, sharing work to reduce workload.

CSSA 2021-2022 TEAM ELECTION
Candidate: Yunning Jia

Self-introduction: My name is Yunning Jia. This is my third year in CSSA. I think I am a person who likes planning and organizing events very much. I have organized various types of activities for classes and schools in the middle and high school stages. This is also the reason why I choose entertainment and leisure science as my major. Because of the enthusiasm for organizing activities, I chose to interview and enter the event department of the CSSA when I was just came to Concordia. For me, organizing events is a very interesting thing. From the appearance of an idea, to planning, to cooperating with other departments for publicity, negotiating sponsorship, and then to the day of the event, it is really a enjoyable process. In addition, my major also help me a lot. Because of it, each of my decisions in the activities are supported by professional knowledge. As well as, it makes my events more scientifically. I think the above is the reason why I am suitable for the VP event.

Q: How do you handle stress?
A: In my opinion, stress is a normal thing. There is a saying that stress can be transformed into motivation. First of all, I will find out the source of stress. At this stage, the main source of stress should be the pressure on the time arrangement between study and the CSSA, as well as the pressure on the successful of activity. In terms of time arrangement, I will do planning in advance so I could know when doing what. In the completion of the activity aspect, I think that as long as the preliminary preparations are made, the risk assessment is done, and the plan is prepared, the results of the activity will be good.

Q: As VP events, how do you make sure an event takes place despite finances, exam, time etc.?
A: I will discuss the appropriate budget range with the president and external department in advance, and notify the person in charge of the event. During the planning, I will also focus on money, try to reduce unnecessary expenditures. Spend the money on the important and necessary things. In terms of time and examinations, I will ask the person in charge to select a few suitable times, and vote inside the CSSA in advance to see if there are exams recently. According to the different activities, I will use student groups to do surveys.

Q: How would you handle internal conflicts?
A: I think that if the conflict is due to the event, actually it is not a bad thing. The conflicts occurs because one person think of something that the other did not. In the organization of events, the more possible situations that can be thought of, the less external impacts they are on activities, therefore, the activities will become better and better. If the conflicts happen, I will ask for their thoughts respectively, and find a way to solve it, then talk about the solution with them separately again. Finally I will call them together to make sure they understand that the conflict is only based on activities not themselves.

Q: How would you handle internal conflicts?
A: I would talk to each member privately to get their ideas and try to find the best way to deal with it.

Q: How will you keep current members active?
A: Some reward system will be added to improve their motivation, communicate with them more and encourage them.

Q: How do you handle stress?
A: I’ll listen to some music and talk to my friends what I am stressed for. Also, I will find other games to let me relax.

Q: Are you a past executive?
I used to be a vice president of a Club in my high school.

CSSA 2021-2022 TEAM ELECTION
Candidate: Canyu Yang

Hi everyone, my name is Canyu Yang, next year will be the last year in Concordia University. It has been 3 years since I joined the Concordia CSSA, and I have seen the growth of Concordia CSSA step by step, these growths are inseparable from the efforts of each member, I also want to grow together with Concordia CSSA. In the last year of my University life, I will be contributing to Concordia CSSA as usual, not only promote Chinese Culture to Chinese student, but also to students from other country. My greatest strength is hardworking and willingness to help the needy people. When I have stress, I will try to react to situations rather than to stress, by doing this way, I can calm down and handle the situation better. In addition, good stress can help me to study motivated and productive. I think I am adequately qualified to take up this position since I know enough about Concordia CSSA, and I have had previous leadership being VP event. I know is hard for Student Association during online course, and it is hard for members being active in these times, I will organize more internal group building online actives to bring everyone together. When we have internal conflict, the first thing I should do is listen carefully and talk with members, and just focus on behavior and events, not on personality. That way, we will pay more attention to the events itself, and after everyone calms down, we can easily analyze the cause of conflict rationally. I am very confident to maintain an organized and successful school year!
