CSSA 2021-2022 TEAM ELECTION
Candidate: Yujing Chen
Self-introduction: Hello everyone, this is Yujing Chen. It is my honor to run for VP Finance during this election. My major is in Accountancy and this is my second year at CSSA. Being a friendly and approachable person, I care about what the VP of Finance can do for CSSA and I am passionate about being a part to take our union forward.
Q: What makes you qualified for this position?
A: Over these 2 years at CSSA, I have developed a sufficient understanding of how our student union works and my accounting background can further support me as VP Finance. Besides, as a visionary and rational person, I believe, for this role, it is important to set goals to work forward and keep everything good on track.
Q: How do you handle stress?
A: When I am in a stressful situation, I often stop to take a step back and allow myself some time to think and plan. For instance, when I work on multiple tasks simultaneously, I prioritize each task by its urgency and importance, so that I can have a clearer view in my mind. Then I become more efficient with my time. I break the big tasks up into separate and individual activities and work out with each of them. By doing this, the tasks become more manageable and far less stressful.
Q: How do you handle internal conflicts?
A: When dealing with conflicts, it is important to ask questions and listen to both sides’ view. If I know what their interpretation of the situation is, it is easier to work out a solution. Then, it is to persuade both sides to calm down and put themselves in another’s shoes and understand their perspective.
Q: How will you keep current members active?
A: Especially during COVID-19, it is critical to keep members active by building ties with each other. I think online video chat and virtual game night (or day) are good options to involve all current members during this pandemic as these are great for sparking inspiration.
