Andrea Laizner found her calling as a teenager, volunteering as a candy striper on the neurology floor at the Montreal General Hospital.

Fifty years later, she has raised the profile of nursing research, mentored hundreds of McGill nursing students, provided health services to the Canadian military, and even convinced designer Leo Chevalier to redesign the McGill nursing student uniform.

Recently, our faculty welcomed 37 students from McGill University’s School of Human Nutrition to the Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories for an engaging breastfeeding workshop. Designed to bridge theory and practice, the session introduced students to the fundamentals of breastfeeding, including positioning, latch techniques, and strategies to support mothers during the immediate postpartum period. Great opportunity for nursing students to get involved in a research study!!! The study explores how students in the Bachelor of Nursing (Integrated) (BNI) program engage with authentic assessment tasks and the personal, pedagogical, and institutional factors that influence their engagement. The study, is recruiting second- and third-year BNI students who are at least 18 years old and comfortable participating in a focus group conducted in English.

This year's orientations, held August 25-28, welcomed 536 new students across all programs, our largest incoming cohort since before the pandemic. Close to 1,200 students are now registered across all Ingram programs for 2026-2027. We are proud to see the Ingram School of Nursing community continue to grow.
