Kudos to Associate Professor Irene Sarasua and her team for winning a Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Education Impact Award for their project titled "Implementing a Model of Excellence for Interprofessional Primary Care NP Clinical Education."

The project brought together faculty, researchers, nurse practitioners and health managers working at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN), CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’île-de-Montréal, and the Centre-Ouest Montréal / CIUSSS West-Central Montreal to address the urgent need for a structured, evidence-based approach to improving Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) clinical education. We were pleased to welcome an international, out-of-province cohort from Explorations this past Tuesday. The non-profit organization, dedicated to providing campers with exceptional learning experiences, joined us for a guided visit to the Ingram School of Nursing, including our Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories! 🩺✨

Students got a hands-on look at the cutting-edge facilities where future nurses train, from simulation manikins to clinical skills stations, offering a glimpse into what an education in nursing at McGill could look like.

Nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir mardi dernier un groupe international et provenant d’autre provinces, participant au camp d’apprentissage Explorations. Cette association à but non lucratif, qui a pour vocation d’offrir aux participants des expériences d’apprentissage exceptionnelles, s’est jointe à nous pour une visite guidée de l’École des sciences infirmières Ingram, notamment de nos laboratoires de soins infirmiers cliniques Satoko Shibata ! 🩺✨

Les élèves ont pu découvrir concrètement les installations de pointe où se forment les futurs infirmiers et infirmières, des mannequins de simulation aux postes de pratique des compétences cliniques, ce qui leur a donné un aperçu de ce à quoi pourrait ressembler une formation en soins infirmiers à McGill.

We were pleased to welcome Vice Dean and Professor Ruth Kleinpell, RN, PhD, from Vanderbilt School of Nursing to the Ingram School of Nursing. 🩺🏥 She presented findings from her research on Engaging Patients and Families in Research & Clinical Care, with a focus on patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Involving patients, families and caregivers in research is essential to ensure the right research questions are asked, and the right outcomes measured, while promoting better understanding, satisfaction, and overall recovery. This is especially challenging in acute and critical care settings, where illness acuity can impact recruitment.

Professor Kleinpell and her team brought patients and family members onto their research advisory board right from the start. This allowed them to identify barriers to recruitment and develop mitigation strategies to address them. 💡
