Wanting to see how he could support patients with his passion for technology and mathematics, Julius Sunglao stepped away from his physician career in the Philippines.
“I was fascinated by how technology could transform the way people work, communicate and solve problems and how mathematics laid the foundation,” he says.
It was not long after that he found a way forward with Douglas College’s Post-Baccalaureate Diploma (PBD) in Health Information Management (HIM).
“HIM is not well-known back home,” he says. “It was inspiring to think of establishing a nationwide health information system there to ease clinical decision-making and patient data analysis.”
Motivated, Julius dove straight into his studies, gaining hands-on experience in various work placements, including working as a coder for Surrey Memorial Hospital. His dedication landed him a health information administrator position at the same hospital, where he plans to further his experience and offer his insight to professionals back home in the Philippines.
