It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of four members of the Canadian Armed Forces killed in a fire during a training exercise at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright in Alberta on Saturday.

JIBC flags are lowered in honour of Sgt. Morgan Wong of Edmonton, with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, and three members of the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry – Pte. Shaun Farrell of Prince Albert, Sask., Pte. Aidan Goulding of North Vancouver, and Pte. Hayden Lykkemark of Langley, B.C. An additional 39 members were injured.

We join communities across Canada in mourning the soldiers who lost their lives in this incident. JIBC extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the fallen soldiers, the injured members, the Canadian Armed Forces and everyone affected by his tragedy.

Professions dedicated to serving others often demand personal sacrifice and involve risks that many people never see. Today, we honour these soldiers and acknowledge the courage, commitment, and sense of duty shared by those who serve in the military and across the public safety sector.
