Office of Indigenous Initiatives at Nipissing University The Office of Indigenous Initiatives provides a welcoming and inclusive space for students.

Nipissing University is located in territory of Nipissing First Nation, along the shores of Lake Nipissing in northern Ontario with several First Nations located within a 100 km radius. James Bay Cree, Algonquin and Metis peoples also live, go to school and work in the City of North Bay, comprising 7.9% of the population. The Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII) fosters an intergenerational, culturally responsive learning community on campus through academic, personal and cultural support. Regionally, the OII’s Biidaaban Community Service-Learning and Wiidooktaadwin Mentorship programs support Indigenous learners in grades K-12 through after-school programs, conferences on campus and classroom support in partnership with 55 community partners and schools, and over 110 university students who volunteer for the programs annually since 2006.
