The National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism is marked every year on June 23 in Canada to mark the anniversary of the bombing of Air India Flight 182 off the coast of Ireland. On this day, flags across Canada are flown at half-mast to honour the victims of the bombing, as well as other acts of terrorist violence that have taken lives.

Congratulations to Bob & Carollyne Collier — our 2026 Partner of the Year!

Announced last night at Common Ground, this is the highest honour Olds College gives a partner. Since 2017, the Colliers have championed student innovation through the Bob Collier Award, which has given $300,000 to 50 students pitching original ideas to benefit Canadian agriculture. In 2022, they also donated $2 million to the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology — plus $100,000 more over the past decade — fueling growth in academic programming, applied research, and the Olds College Smart Farm.

"The students feel like family to us," said Carollyne Collier. "They are so incredibly special in our lives."

Thank you, Bob and Carollyne, for ten years of advancing agriculture for a better world.

A full recap of our first annual Common Ground event is coming soon — stay tuned!

A first for the Smart Farm! This week, researchers seeded a field from the sky using a sprayer drone. This allowed us to establish a perennial forage stand despite wet conditions after heavy rains earlier in June.

Thanks to the Canadian Foundation for Innovation for providing grant funding for the drone purchase.

Members of the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council and the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick visited the Olds College Smart Farm on June 9. They learned about how our students get hands-on experience with agricultural technology and data, and how our researchers are testing products and practices that can benefit producers across Canada.

A little rain couldn’t rain on our parade. 🌈

Yesterday, we raised the Pride flags on campus to celebrate love, equality, unity and respect for everyone — regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. At Olds College, we’re proud to foster a community where everyone is welcome, valued and empowered to be themselves.

No matter who you are or who you love, you belong here.

🐾 Does your teen dream of working with animals?

This summer, they can get a real taste of veterinary medicine — hands-on, up close and with actual animals!

Our Introduction to Veterinary Medicine for Teens camp is a 4-day adventure for youth ages 13–16 where they'll go beyond the textbook and into the clinic. Think: animal behaviour and handling, health assessments, basic first aid, bandaging techniques, AND a field trip to tour real animal care facilities.

Spots are capped at 15 students to keep things safe and fun — and they fill up FAST. Don't wait on this one!

📅 Summer 2026 dates at Olds College:
✅ July 6–9
✅ July 20–23
✅ August 10–13

Also offering a session in Calgary (in partnership with Fusion Collegiate) on July 13–16!

At the Olds College Smart Farm, we're conducting a large-scale, multi-year field assessment of over 300 pea genetic lines — work that could shape the future of pulse crop breeding in Canada.

By evaluating how different genetics perform under real growing conditions, we're helping identify the traits that make pea crops more resilient, more productive and better suited to the demands of Prairie agriculture. Climate variability, soil stress, input efficiency — the crops of tomorrow need to handle all of it.

And we're proud to be doing it alongside one of Canada's most respected research institutions — the National Research Council of Canada.
