Two Master's students from the Animal Science Program at the University of Manitoba spent the week of August 10-14 interning with the Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production.

They were able to get hands-on experience learning about the various areas of research work we do and both strongly recommended the experience for future student interns!

Today, Olds College is proud to launch the Olds College Agriculture Group (OCAG), a new co-curricular framework designed to elevate competitive excellence for students across agriculture through institutional alignment, animal welfare, specialized coaching and direct experiential learning.

This new group will be managed within the Werklund School of Agriculture Technology and supports the Broncos Rodeo Team, Red Angus Show Team, Sheep Show Team, the newly formed Agronomy Team and International Agriculture opportunities under one unified umbrella. OCAG connects competitive agriculture experiences with academic programming, industry and the Olds College Smart Farm.

We are also pleased to welcome Michael Frankiw as Manager of OCAG. With deep roots in agriculture, Olds College and student experience, Michael will provide the operational and administrative leadership needed to support students, coaches and administrative oversight as the group continues to grow.

This is just the beginning. Discover how OCAG is changing the way Olds College supports students, teams and competitive agriculture and what this new structure means for the future.

More information about the 2026-27 Broncos Rodeo Team and coaches will be released soon.

Huge congratulations to the Olds Bumper to Bumper – Olds College’s 2026 Community Partner of the Year!

At our annual Strive & Thrive staff celebration, we honoured a local business that has gone above and beyond in supporting our students, trades programs and campus community. Through student discounts, annual toolbox donations, discounted premium tooling and critical support for our new welding area, Bumper to Bumper has helped remove barriers and equip learners for success.

A special highlight of this year’s award: the unveiling of Olds College’s inaugural Community Partner Bench, with Bumper to Bumper as its very first recipient.

Huge thank you to Shea and Kasey from Last Hour Design Inc. for constructing this beautiful bench. The bench will remain permanently on campus as a visible and lasting reminder of Bumper to Bumper’s contributions to Olds College and its students. Moving forward, each Community Partner of the Year recipient will be honoured with a dedicated campus bench.

Congratulations again, Rob Rhodes, Owner of Bumper to Bumper in Olds and his team, and thank you for investing in the future of our students, our trades, and our community.

On September 1, 2026, Olds College will light the Water Tower in yellow in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout September, we join communities across Canada in raising awareness, supporting children facing cancer and their families, and advocating for continued progress in research, treatment and care.

By illuminating our Water Tower, we stand in solidarity with those affected and help ensure that children and families in our community — and beyond — feel seen, supported and not alone.

This summer, the Olds College Industry Training & Continuing Education (ITCE) department hosted 79 students in hands-on programs covering large and small animal veterinary medicine, small engine mechanics and other career areas. Students travelled from across Alberta and as far as Manitoba to participate. Some stayed on campus in residence at Centennial Village to experience Olds College campus living.

Feedback from students and parents highlighted the value of the hands-on learning, the range of topics covered, and the support from instructors.

Thanks to all staff and instructors who delivered these camps, and to the youth participants who took part. Registration for 2027 summer youth programs will open in the new year.

Earlier this summer, Agronomy Level 1 field students headed out to Plot 11 at Olds College for hands-on data collection. Through observation tracking, yield optimization and trend analysis, participants recorded precise field locations, captured photos and used GPS mapping tools to connect and track crop data over time.

That data guides smart decisions — like where to place rain gauges to monitor water levels, how to spot field trends and how to build historical patterns that inform management and help unlock maximum yield potential.
