This week marked the kickoff of our Student Led CANDU Reactor Physical & Virtual Simulator Project at Ontario Tech University! ⚛️
Students explored nuclear fission, took measurements of real CANDU reactor components, and learned how VR can transform nuclear education.
The project aims to create both a physical and virtual reactor simulator to help students, parents, and STEM enthusiasts better understand how a CANDU reactor works.
A great start to an exciting interdisciplinary project bringing together nuclear technology, engineering design, simulation, and virtual reality. Stay tuned for updates!

Want to expand your degree and explore another area of interest?

A minor is a secondary area of study that complements your major and helps you build additional skills and knowledge in another subject area.

You can apply for a “Change of Minor” through MyOntarioTech after your first year and take the courses aligned to that minor. Once you have confirmation from an Academic Advisor, you’re in!

The Engineering and Management Program at Ontario Tech University offers engineering students the opportunity to combine technical expertise with business and leadership skills.

After completing third year, students spend two semesters with the Faculty of Business and Information Technology, building critical management skills in areas such as accounting, finance, operations, human resources, and marketing. Students then return for their final capstone engineering year, where they can apply both engineering and management perspectives to complex, real-world challenges.

This program provides a pathway for students to combine technical expertise with business and organizational leadership.

Looking to gain skills for high-demand industries? Consider a specialization that gives you the skills the industry needs. Specializations can be added to your degree, aligning your course load with the topic with minimal alterations to your program map.

After your second or third year (depending on the specialization), you can apply for a “Change of Specialization” through MyOntarioTech, and take the courses aligning with the specialization. Once you have confirmation from an Academic Advisor, you’re in! You can also apply for the specialization after you’ve already taken a course.

Now introducing the new Aerospace specialization at Ontario Tech University!

Designed as an addition to the Mechanical Engineering program, this specialization provides students with a strong foundation in the science and technology of flight while exploring the core disciplines that drive the design and operation of modern aircraft and spacecraft.

Students will build advanced knowledge in aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, and flight dynamics, while connecting theoretical learning with hands-on problem solving and industry-relevant simulation tools.

Celebrating student achievements!

The Student Section has been awarded the ASME Section Achievement Award for its outstanding accomplishments in 2025–2026. In under three years, the section has now earned this distinction twice, an impressive reflection of sustained leadership and engagement.

Over the past year, the team has delivered 30+ professional development opportunities, including technical workshops, industry tours, seminars, and design competitions.

Earlier this month, the chapter also led a campus clean-up initiative as part of their community impact efforts, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability alongside engineering excellence. With Earth Day today, it’s a fitting moment to recognize both their achievements and their global recognition and local impact.

Well done to everyone involved!

Earlier this week, we celebrated the graduating students from the Department of Energy and Nuclear Engineering with a cherished tradition at Ontario Tech University - the receiving of Zirconium rings. These rings, established with the inaugural graduating class in 2007, serve as a reminder of safety and ethics. They specifically embody the values of safety and camaraderie deeply ingrained in the nuclear energy community.
