Dear Students,

This is a message notifying you of our Annual Research Night hosted by your Ontario Tech IEEE Student Branch! On Monday, March 22nd at 6 PM, join us virtually as we invite professor Dr. Vijay Sood to present his findings to us in the field of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in terms of Power Systems and the analysis that goes behind their creation. Along with that, we will go over ways you could potentially be involved with all the exciting work that goes on at our University!

Dr. Sood (SM ‘79-F’06-LF’15) is a NSERC-OPG Co-Chair in Innovative Design Engineering, Registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, a Fellow of the IEEE, Engineering Institute of Canada and Emeritus Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He was a Senior Researcher at the Research Institute of Hydro-Quebec in Montreal before migrating to Ontario Tech University in 2007 as an Associate Professor. Joining the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, his work with the simulation of HVDC-FACTS systems and their controllers have led to him authoring over 100 articles and 2 highly-esteemed books on the subject! Along with his work, Dr. Sood is now a professor in charge of courses such as Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, and Power Systems.

As final exams start to arrive around the corner, why not de-stress a little by learning more about the other side our University has to offer, with its extensive and ground-breaking research programs.

Hello everyone!

We have a new exciting event coming up next week that anyone even remotely interested in pursuing a master's degree should attend.

A wide selection of graduate students will talk about the research they're conducting and how their masters program made it possible.

Come find out what a degree in engineering coupled with a masters can do for you. Hint: Your masters doesn't have to be engineering related either!

We hope to see you all on Feb 6th in SIRC 1350 at 5pm!

Directors Wanted and Deadline Extended to October 9th!

We here at the Ontario Tech University's IEEE Student Branch are currently looking for a handful of directors to support our executive team. If this sounds tempting, ask yourself the following questions:

Do you envision yourself assisting with the planning, running, or marketing of engineering-focused events? For example, would you be interested in helping with the implementation of this year's Mechatronic Research Night? Does the idea of working with a group of people who have a desire to provide access to engineering targeted media and events entice you? Would you like a platform to create educational material on subject matter you find fascinating and relay it to an audience of like-minded people? Do you have a passion for STEM and want to help foster a budding community built around STEM?

If you have said yes to any of these questions, fill out the application linked below by October the 9th. We look forward to reading over your submission. If you have been selected for an interview, our team will reach you via the contact info provided through your application.

Good luck!
