Brilliant Idea - Winter 2022
Brilliant Idea is back again this year, but with a twist!

Want to earn $500 and learn a new skill? The Brilliant Catalyst has just the thing for you! Join us for a three-day workshop series led by experienced entrepreneurs and learn how to identify and solve a real-world problem right here in our community! Every student will be paid $500 for participating!

When: February 15, 17, and 24. All sessions will be held virtual on Zoom

During Brilliant Idea, students will have the opportunity to:
o Network and engage with industry experts to solve a real-world problem
o Learn the basics of ideation from experienced entrepreneurs

The Virtual Further Education Week (October 4th to 8th) and the Virtual Further Education Expo (October 6th) are events that will help students make a decision or inspire them to continue their studies! Throughout the week there will be Alumni panels (Law, MSW and Counselling, Medicine, and Health Science) that will field questions about their further education experience and career related advise! Also, there will be one whole day devoted to speaking directly with representatives from various institutions across Canada and internationally! The representatives are here to answer questions about programs and the specific processes to apply to each one! Tell everyone about this event that is interested in furthering their education!

Brilliant Catalyst is hosting a 10-day Digital Challenge for Rural Canada where students from across Canada will have the opportunity to work in teams to find innovative solutions to existing problems faced by rural Canadian communities. Every student will earn $300 just for participating in the challenge and will have a chance to win a grand prize of $5,000.

When: August 10th to August 20th virtual on Zoom

During the challenge, students will have the opportunity to:
o Network and engage with industry experts
o Have the opportunity to work with Brilliant Catalyst to develop their solution further

Information from our friends at Employment Readiness Program

The Employment Readiness Program is a series of five workshops designed to teach students practical job readiness skills and skills for navigating the workplace with success. Students who attend the workshop series will be able to practice learned skills in a practical environment and have access to additional peer support with an Employment Peer Coach who can help address career-related concerns.

All students are invited to register and attend. The workshops will all be taking place virtually and will run from June 30th, 2021 to July 28th, 2021. Students who attend this workshop series will be entered to win a $50 Amazon gift card.

Are you ready to start or advance your career in public administration, nonprofit management, and public policy? Please join us for Wayne State University’s Open House for the Graduate Programs in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 6 pm.

Wayne State University’s MPA Program offers professional training for a wide variety of public service careers. Career placements include: local, state, and federal agencies; nonprofit organizations; and policy analysis and legislative staff positions. The MPA program is nationally accredited and is the oldest in the state of Michigan.

Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management is designed to support a variety of nonprofit management and policy careers, and those working or aspiring to build a career in philanthropic organizations.

Graduate students who are residents of Fulton, Lucas, Ottawa and Williams counties in Ohio, or residents of Ontario, Canada are eligible for resident tuition rates.

Message from Brilliant Catalyst

The Brilliant Incubator is a summer program designed to help students learn entrepreneurial skills and create their own companies. This program is free and a great experience.

The program begins April 26th with 2 weeks of introductory programming. During these two weeks there will be a variety of workshops and sessions focused on key entrepreneurial concepts such as validation, design thinking, business model, and more. Sessions during the 2 weeks will start at 10 am and end by approximately 2 pm.
After the 2 week introduction there will be bi-weekly mentorship and workshops alternating each week (until early August). The time commitment for these weeks is approximately 2 hours per week. At the end of the program (early August) there will be a pitch competition for some prize money.
