Algonquin College’s three-year Animation advanced diploma program continues to build a reputation for excellence by combining hands-on learning, industry-informed instruction and state-of-the-art production facilities. The program is supported by faculty with experience at leading studios and companies including Disney, Warner Bros. Animation, Sony and Ubisoft.

Algonquin College’s Animation program has once again been recognized among the best in the country, earning the top ranking in Ontario and fifth place nationally in Animation Career Review’s 2026 rankings of Canada’s leading, non-degree animation training programs.

“This recognition reflects the exceptional talent, dedication and creativity of our learners, faculty, support staff and alumni,” said Julie Beauchamp, Senior Vice President, Academic at Algonquin College. “Being ranked first in Ontario and among the top five animation programs in Canada is a testament to the strength of our program and the impact our graduates are making in the animation industry.”

The Algonquin College Spring 2026 Convocation is happening in Ottawa from June 23 – 26. Meet Cyrell Colon, the Valedictorian for the Algonquin Centre of Construction Excellence and a graduate of the Welding & Fabrication Techniques program.

“Being named Valedictorian is truly a great honour, and I am deeply grateful for the recognition. At the same time, I see it as representing everyone in the program because we all worked hard, dedicated countless hours, and overcame challenges together.

Welding teaches you that nothing is perfect on the first try, and I think that reflects the entire learning experience. Success comes from persistence, growth, and showing up every day with the willingness to improve.“

Hands-on skills with real-world application and impact. That’s the power of community and connections creating opportunities for learners to highlight their skills.

Earlier this year, the Denmark in Canada Embassy approached John McKinlay-Key, Program Coordinator, Cabinetmaking, with a unique request. The embassy was seeking a custom “pølsevogn”, hotdog stand, for an event on June 2 to commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations with Canada.

McKinlay-Key recruited a team of four cabinetmaking students, Logan Stewart, Brian Demille, Conrad Peixinho-Richter and Emily Iselmoe; who volunteered their time to design, build and paint the stand under his guidance. The stand can be completely dissembled for convenient transport and storage.

In addition to the stand, Iselmoe also created computer numerical control (CNC) cut letters and signage to accompany the stand, which was praised for exceeding expectations by the embassy.
