Algonquin College Advertising program

Algonquin College Advertising program This page is a forum for future and current students, alumni and faculty of the Advertising program at Algonquin College.

Make something ordinary extraordinary with a career in Advertising! From the first day, you’ll be a part of the industry, making contact with real advertising professionals and building a professional portfolio through actual projects and agency pitches. You’ll visit top agencies, get guidance from our advisory committee and industry mentors, and even complete a six-week work placement in the fina

l semester. Plus, in your second year, you’ll apply for positions to work in one of three action-packed places – the Algonquin Times, our multiple-award winning student newspaper; Glue, the student magazine; or Leg-up, the student-run advertising agency. While working there, you’ll do real work for real clients.

Second-year students presented their Shopping Centre IMC plans last week, bringing their strategic ideas, energy, and creativity to life in front of their clients.

A BIG thank you to the marketing teams at Place d'Orléans Shopping Centre, Bayshore Shopping Centre, St. Laurent, and Tanger Outlets, Ottawa for their longstanding partnerships + empowering our students through this real-world experience.

PHEW! 😁 ...Anyone else catching their breath after a busy term? Sharing some of the absolute good-ness - this time from DIG Agency. What a year! I am incredibly proud of this crew. They improved with each client and really wrapped it up with solid work. The insights and creative just kept getting better. And clients said so too. Here are just a few of the pics from final presentations! Way to go DIG! 👏🙌🔥🎉

Last week the DIG Agency crew got to meet Mitch Duesling, Associate Creative Director at Cossette. 🌟He shared the goods on his career path, Agency life, and particular tips on pitching client work. These tidbits are SO GOOD: 'use criticism as a TOOL to improve'. Relate to that? 🧐🙃 And we know it but 'the more you do, the better you'll get'. Keep at it folks - you're practicing right now (promise the practice will help!).

So great to welcome Dan Fallak (Ad program + Dragon’s Den alum!!) back to speak with our second-year students this week.

Dan shared some of the innovative products he’s designed and developed—and gave a behind-the-scenes look at how he approaches integrated marcomm for trade shows. From PR and digital to advertising and direct marketing, he walked through how each piece works together to build a cohesive, high-impact plan.

Always a win when our students get to learn from grads who are out there doing their thing. 💚🎉

Congrats to this term's Stukent podium winners, who created dozens of captivating social media posts to sell fictional Buhi bags in this real-world simulation. Way to go Jamel, Kate-Lynne, Bobby, Alayna, Madison, and Evan!

And an EXTRA congrats goes out to Jamel—the winner of the Golden Backpack Award—who generated the most amount of revenue across both sections: $1,402,829.

If this is “fictional,” we can’t wait to see what you do for real.
