Those in the Ottawa area may be interesting in attending this sure to be fascinating free lecture hosted by Department of Earth Sciences.

Abstract: When our solar system was just an infant, thousands of planetesimals (tiny planet-like objects) formed in fewer than one million years. Many melted, allowing metal cores to differentiate from rocky mantles. One of these metal cores may still exist, revealed in the asteroid (16) Psyche. I’ll discuss what is known and what is hypothesized about the asteroid, how we have planned a mission and built a spacecraft to study this unknown object, how we progressed with the mission through COVID, with its intense challenges to teams, and an update of where we are one-year post-launch.

Geoheritage Day is this Saturday September 28!! Our expert volunteers will be at 7 geosites this year from 10am to 3pm to help explain the geological features and how they fit into the story of the building of our regional landscape.

Thank you to our community partners, the Ottawa Gatineau Geoheritage Project, Cardinal Creek Community Association, Biodiversity Conservancy International and the Metcalfe Geoheritage Park.

How and when did life on Earth begin?
Are we alone in the universe?
How can we create a more sustainable society?
