WUSC Carleton

WUSC Carleton WUSC Carleton is a local committee (LC) of the World University Service of Canada. For more information, please contact [email protected]

We aim to provide an inclusive community for student refugees on our campus, and advocate for a better world through education. WUSC is a network of students, faculty, development professionals, and volunteers. Several university campuses across Canada (including Carleton) have a Local Committee of students that support the organization as a whole and help carry out the Student Refugee Program. Th

e Student Refugee Program is the main focus of our Local Committee's work on campus. Each year, campuses across Canada welcome refugee students from various zones of conflict to complete a university degree in Canada. Thanks to a successful campus referendum in the 2015-2016 school year, Carleton is sponsoring two students annually! Carleton was also the very first Local Committee to sponsor a refugee student, starting back in 1978. Our job is to create a support system for sponsored students that will help ease their transition into Canadian society, and will help grant them all the tools needed to become independent after the sponsorship has ended. Our job is also to promote awareness of refugee issues on campus and in the city of Ottawa. We do this through organized public awareness campaigns designed to be an educational experience for students at Carleton, the community, and members of our own local committee.
