𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨.

Not this role.

Not this time.

Not today.

One of our responsibilities as teachers is to help children learn that disappointment is something they can move through.

An audition result should never define a young dancer. Neither should a casting decision.

We can acknowledge disappointment without allowing it to become devastation.

And then we help them ask:

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐧? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭?

Dance gives children many opportunities to discover that a “no” isn't the end of the story.

Sometimes it's simply part of becoming resilient enough to keep going.

In August, the students in our DragonFly Moving Minds programme participated in our Leadership week! We engaged in discussions about what makes a good leader as well as a good participant. Students practiced these skills as they paired up to lead the group through a different sport everyday. Together we learned how to plan for the weather, gather and care for supplies, and navigate the streets safely. Students had the opportunity to practice navigating the city bus, thanks to OC Transpo, and on Friday we learned about Canada’s federal government as we toured Parliament and met with our MP, the Honourable Mona Fortier.
