🎬 There is just ONE MONTH left until the start of “Second Wind” Special Canadian Tour!

This is not just a documentary. It’s a story of strength that changes your perspective. It tells the story of five Ukrainian heroes who went through pain, loss, and hardship, but did not break. Four veterans with amputations and an active servicewoman climbed one of the “Seven Summits of the World” — Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s about finding your second wind when it feels like there’s none left.

The screening will be in Ukrainian with English subtitles.

At our recent event, Living Words of the Fallen, we honoured the legacy of Maksym Kryvtsov — a soldier, poet, photographer, and voice that continues to resonate and that we must keep alive.

During the event, we shared the T-shirt initiative started by Maksym Kryvtsov before his life was ended by russia, and brought to life by Raisa Chernukha and Dali fund in his honour posthumously. Against the backdrop of our event, we connected with them to bring this initiative to Ottawa.

Three T-shirt designs are available — all in English.

🤲Purchasing a T-shirt featuring Dali’s design is a 100% donation. All funds will be e-transferred to the Dali fund representative, who then sends them to Maksym’s mother, Nadiia Kryvstova. (We will post all the receipts).

Together, we were able to negotiate the price and our club will fully cover shipping costs to make this donation as accessible as possible.

Last week, we hosted Living Words of the Fallen — an event dedicated to reading the poetry of Ukrainian poets and writers killed by russia’s full-scale invasion.

We were honoured to be joined virtually by Olena Herasymyuk, who shared her memories of the Nedopysani project, .project, founded together with Yevhen Lir. She spoke about the importance of preserving memory, commemoration, and her invaluable experience as a poet, writer, and founder of a memorial initiative documenting fallen literary figures.

This event was held in collaboration with the Poetic Society, and we are sincerely grateful for their support and help in making it possible.

Special thanks to photographer Chris Arnold, .arnold_, for capturing the event.

During the program, we featured Maksym Kryvtsov, .dali, one of the fallen poets.
We have opened a pre-order for the charity T-shirts with his designs, created before russia killed him. Link in bio.

Four years ago, on February 24, russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine - a continuation and escalation of russia’s war against Ukraine that has now lasted 12 years.

Today, we share a message from Dmytro, a Ukrainian combat medic whom our community has previously hosted and supported, and continues to support. His words remind us that for Ukraine, this is not just a date, but an ongoing reality.

Today and always, we stand in solidarity with Ukraine and with those who defend its freedom every day.

We are incredibly honoured to have Olena Herasymyuk joining us virtually for the first hour of the Living Words of the Fallen event.📝

Olena Herasymyuk is a Ukrainian poet, writer, public figure, volunteer, and paramedic with the volunteer medical battalion “Hospitallers,” and co-founder of the Nedopysani project. She’ll be sharing her insights, perspectives and reflections, but the session’s main focus will be a dialogue with the audience, where she’ll answer your questions and engage in the conversation directly.

Use this unique opportunity to hear from one of the voices keeping Ukrainian culture, literature and memory alive.

📝LIVING WORDS OF THE FALLEN

On February 20, from 1–3 PM at Gordon Woods Lounge, we will be reading the works of Ukrainian poets and writers whose lives were taken by russia’s full-scale invasion.

This post features the writers and poets whose poems we will be reading at the event.

📃This post also features the Nedopysani project — a memory initiative dedicated to Ukrainian literary figures killed in russia’s war. 
We encourage you to visit Nedopysani project’s social media pages to learn about more figures of Ukrainian literature whose lives were lost and support their work. Through their words and initiatives like Nedopysani project, we remember, honour, and keep their voices alive.

🎤We are also exceptionally honoured that one of the Nedopysani project’s co-founders will be joining us virtually to speak at the event — Olena Herasymyuk, a Ukrainian poet, writer, public figure, volunteer, and paramedic with the volunteer medical battalion “Hospitallers.”

Together with the Carleton Poetic Society, we will remember Ukrainian writers who lost their lives during the full-scale invasion by reading their poetry — words written in times of war, occupation, and resistance.

The second part of the event will be an open literary circle, where attendees are invited to share their own poetry.
