In her upcoming book Content Machines: Reading and Writing in the Platform Era, Carleton University professor Sarah Brouillette deconstructs the rise of digital communication platforms, romance writing and "gigified" self-publishing.

Rather than condemning new formats or lamenting the state of traditional publishing, Brouillette treats today's reading trends as a mirror for broader societal shifts, from economic turmoil to the quest for community online.

Carleton University is taking concrete steps to build equitable, transformative research partnerships across Africa.

A Carleton delegation led by President Wisdom Tettey recently met with leaders at seven South African universities to advance collaboration in quantum sensors, food security, environmental justice, youth entrepreneurship and many other areas.

During the trip, Carleton signed MOUs with the Unisa - The University of South Africa and the University Of Venda and formally endorsed the Africa Charter for Transformative Research Collaborations.

"Together with our African partners, we have an opportunity to do something consequential: to help build a more equitable global order, not merely reflect the existing one," says President Tettey.

From industry problem to safety solution. ⚠️

Carleton Industrial Design graduate (and now Master’s student) Devang Ghosh took home first place at the 2026 ACIDO | Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario Rocket Competition for his project, “Sentinel.”   

Designed to solve safety and communication challenges in extreme environments, Sentinel equips hazmat teams with real-time wearable sensors, cameras and data-sharing technology.

Developed in collaboration with the Ottawa HAZMAT team, the project highlights the power of user-centered design and iterative prototyping.
