The award-winning College newspaper, the Algonquin Times, is the primary learning tool, and the focus for work in the second and third levels. A biannual magazine, Glue and an Ottawa online news site, also provides students with hands-on training. Students generate sto

ry ideas, write and edit copy, find and photograph images worthy of publication, shoot web video stories and run the Algonquin Times as a community newspaper. In the fourth level, students complete internships at media outlets throughout the province and beyond.

Our journalism students are on field placement in the wide world just now. Sometimes, they still write about Algonquin College success stories - and scoop their The Algonquin Times colleagues. Excellent Ottawa Business Journal story Jorge Maria.

Startup has already landed a deal with one of the city’s best-known sports retailers as it seeks to cash in on a surge in outdoor activities during the pandemic.

On March 4, 2020, these then-level 2 Algonquin College students took a walk up the street on a field trip to the City of Ottawa Archives. While Zoom group shots have had to replace in-person ones over the last year, this group has marched together as a team. Next week: field placements begin. We look forward to following along with their adventures.

The first batch of our journalism students' work for the Macleans' "They Were Loved project" is up. Our reporters were compassionate in their interviews and careful in their writing. Have a read and you'll be proud too (Maybe grab a tissue)

They Were Loved is an obituary project to commemorate thousands of coronavirus victims, as well as to mark this historic moment in Canadian history. Our goal: to pay tribute to every Canadian who has died of COVID-19.

The Algonquin College journalism program, along with several of our fellow media programs at Algonquin College, has partnered with Ottawa Showbox to produce great content about Ottawa musicians and the local music scene.
