Every June, the Trent community celebrates our graduating students in a ceremony embedded with Indigenous culture, adding to the traditions of Trent University’s convocation ceremonies.

This June, we celebrate National Indigenous History Month, Seniors Month, and the start of Pride Season.

At Trent, these are more than moments of recognition; they are pillars of our community and areas where we are proud to lead, learn, and grow. From honouring Indigenous knowledge and culture, to advancing seniors-focused research and community initiatives, to fostering inclusive spaces and resources for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, Trent is committed to building a future rooted in belonging, respect, and connection.

For more than 60 years, Trent University has been a leader in Indigenous studies and advancing Indigenous education, truth, and reconciliation. Trent was the first university in Canada, and only the second in North America, to establish an academic department dedicated to Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Knowledges. 

Indigenous ways of knowing continue to shape learning, research, and community across the university through the guidance of Elders and knowledge keepers, fostering understanding, respect, and meaningful connection to the treaty and traditional territory on which Trent is located.
