The Solar Eclipse is happening today! ☀️🌚

Stay safe by wearing eclipse glasses that allow you to watch the entire eclipse process! Without glasses, only look during the brief period when the moon is blocking the entire sun, but once you see any light look away or put your glasses back on! Do not use regular sunglasses or look through a camera to watch the eclipse, as this will result in serious eye injuries.

Submit your design to our button design contest! We know that Social Work students have limited time and capacity, and that money is tight with the cost of living right now, so we want to help you out. The three best designs will be awarded a $50 gift card to a store of their choosing. Designs should fit on a 1 inch button and be social work and/or social justice related. These buttons will be distributed at our future events and to social work students! As part of their community action campaign for SWRK 3002: Theory and Practice I, some students have started a petition calling on Trent University to provide renewable entrance scholarships to Indigenous students based on need, not academics. Check out the petition for more info!

March is National Social Work Month, and the Department of Social Work is hosting several events:

Social gatherings in Peterborough:

* Thursday, March 16th starting at 3:00pm. Location: The Pit, LEC
* Monday, March 20th starting at 2:00pm. Location: The Pit, LEC

Drop by and take a break from your busy schedule and connect with peers and social work staff.

Also, there will be a button maker at each event, and you will be able to make your own, custom buttons! Feel free to bring images that are at least 1” in diameter, and up to 1 5/8”. They will be cut out so if it is a precious image to you, you might want to consider bringing a copy of the image. There will also be other activities, snacks, and door prizes.

Social Work Panel discussions (online):

* Thursday, March 23rd from 6 pm to 8pm. We'll be joined by social workers from the sexual violence, adult mental health, student support services, community engagement/macro social work, harm reduction, research, and advocacy sectors.
