âNURSING STUDENT ADVOCACY ALERT â
A recent change to the critical care placement requirements has raised the GPA cutoff from 75% to 80% without prior notice.
For years, nursing students have worked toward the 75% benchmark set by the program. This sudden shift places many dedicated and capable students at a disadvantage, despite their commitment, clinical growth, and readiness for high-acuity environments.
Critical care nursing is about more than grades, itâs about skill, resilience, and patient-centered care. Changing expectations this late in the program raises concerns about fairness and transparency.
We are calling on Trent University to reconsider this decision and honour the original 75% requirement for current students.
