Programs and courses offered by the Department enable students to begin or deepen their knowledge of a second language and then explore great works of literature in their original tongue. Language courses are offered at all levels from introductory to advanced and strive to develop competence in understanding, speaking, reading and writing. Literature courses give students a broad acquaintance wit

h the variety of works written in the language, while helping them develop the critical abilities necessary for their proper appreciation.
